well, my day kinda sucked. i woke up, and my heat lamp lightbulb burnt out, luckily just as i woke up. so me, my mom, and my girlfriend go to a petstore to get one. well we get there, and i do my usual, and get what i need then go check out the snakes. they had 2 ball pythons, 2 corn snakes, a green anaconda, and a red tail boa. the BPs had no hide. none of them did, except the green anaconda, but it was to small. the corn snakes housing was full of old sheds, which were not in one piece. all the cages were those reptariums, so they dont hold humidity or heat well. so i asked to hold the snakes. i held the green anaconda first. it was really docile, really friendly. then i held the red tail boa. it was the same. last i held the baby BPs. all seemed healthy. well, while im doing this, my girlfriend and my mom, who both like rats, were buying some rats. so we go out to my truck and im trying to organize it to make room, cause it was really dirty. while im doing this my mom and my girlfriend are looking at these rats. i here my mom scream, and when i get out of the truck i asked what was wrong. my mom said the rat bit here and they closed the box with the rat. my moms finger was bleeding, pretty bad. so i take the box, and open it, and this rat looks like a sewer rat! its huge! so i tell my mom to put pressure on the bite and i go back into the store to return it. my girlfriend went in with the rat ahead of me, and was already talking to the guy. i walked in and just went nuts. i told him that he was stupid for selling someone a rat that size when he knew it was for a pet, and i told him what happened. i told him to tell the next person that buys that rat that its dangerous. then i tell the guy about how poor the stores caring for the snakes were. i forgot to mention there was dryed feces in the cages! this store made a really bad impression on me. there stuff was over priced, they didnt take god enough care of there snakes, and all other reptiles, they sold dangerous animals. the guy didnt even warn us about the rat. well, i came home, and thawed a rat for rex. put it in his cage, he snapped a couple times, but he didnt eat. he hasnt ate for 13days now. handling with him is going good tho. hope fully hes ok. i noticed though that the rat pups look a little small for him. hes around 18-20in long. i dont really want to try feeding more then one at a time though. sorry, just had to share my horrible day with you all. im still mad cause of that petshop.

I guess about 70% of pet shops are pure crap.
-
When it comes to the Reptile aspect of Pet Stores I think they're all 95% POOP. Unless they're strickly a reptile pet store.
-
I have decided that i am going to do something once school lets out that will probably end up landing me in jail. I am going to go on a mission to seek out every pet store that i can find in the area &, my PLAN is to keep my cool & pass out care sheets for their reptiles, snakes in particular. But, I get the feeling that at some points the staff is not going to want to be told how to care for their animals & I am just gunna snap.

Well I got my first BP from a strictly reptile pet store and they sucked too, although I didn't know that at the time. I'm NEVER going there again.

Well, I was a math major in college, so that makes me a double nerd.
Oh and I love star wars so make that a triple nerd:
Herpnerd, Math Nerd, and Star Wars Nerd. That's me!
-
LOL, you are a triple nerd! My mom double-majored in math and geology and was the only woman in either program when she was in college -- there's a nerd for ya. And since I work with computer geek stuff for a living, I guess I'm a double nerd. :)
-
I've been toying with computers since age 8 when I learned the basics of DOS from there it was HTML and since then I've slowed down but learned a lot of OS stuff and how to build a computer and format... basics now really haha..
I also was an audio engineer for about a year and a half so I can talk mics and direct boxes with the best
Growing up my role model was Wolverine (I have the first issue of Wolverine the comic... not weapon X but the first official Wolverine comic)
I also play a bunch of instruments though I'm sure steelsack could play me under the table :) If you wanna chat tunes drop me a PM
I love being nerdy but I couldn't appreciate it until college haha :) I'm the opposite of a math nerd.. I'm 22, in my last semester of college and can't long divide... that's why I have an accountant for the company I'm starting up haha :)
-
Oh yes I love Blizzard Entertainment computer games and SIM computer games, and own a nintendo, super nintendo, nintendo 64, playstation2 and xbox my roomate has sega , sega genisis, sega CD, and PSone so we're set haha.
-
I'm not bad with computers myself although I don't know enough to make a living at it or anything like my brother who does web development, etc. When I was in college I learned C++, which seems pretty pointless as no one I know uses it. But it filled some requirements for my major and I didn't have to Chemistry or Physics because of it.
-
haha yeah a bunch of my friends are programmers now and we used to tool around with all that stuff when we were younger.. I only briefly dipped into C++ but there are plenty of jokes about it haha. Ironic that I'm good with computers but so incredibly horrible with numbers. :)

Jonah, music IS math. You just don't know that you're good at math. :)
-
lol that's true but I do mostly jazzy or jam type stuff where you let your soul do the counting haha that way I just have to get my brain out of the way!
-
Yep, but it's still math, just on a very intuitive level for you. I know a composer who is also a math professor and I love how well that matches. :)
-
yeah my roomate and I came here as Classical Composition majors and he stuck with it, I changed to Comm.. he is a brilliant composer and he is also a brilliant mathmatician
-
Hey, I'm a math person, and my boyfriend is a musician. Maybe that's another reason why we're good together!
-
sounds likely to me! I'm crazy and my girlfriend is a psychologist so we're perfect for eachother! haha (I'm not really crazy unless you count OutgoingnessxImpulsivenessxHumor)

As far as what tom said, we are not nerds here, we are merely herp enthusiasts and are here to help.
-
welcome to the forums tomtucky... don't worry about people giving you crap. it's a good thing you found us before you decided to make a purchase, bc we are ALL here to HELP.

Thanks for the recommendation, Smulkin. I really need to start keeping a list of things people have told me to read/listen to/etc., as I'm trying not to make any more acquisitions until after I move. :)
-
yeah thanks smulkin I'll definately check that out! I have a list of ambitious reading for the summer though -
The Glass Bead Game- Hermann Hesse
The Brothers Karamazov - Dotoyevsky
Grapes of Wrath - Steinbeck
A Rhetoric of Motives - Kenneth Burke
The Selfish Gene - Richard Dawkins
EVENTUALLY I hope to read the copy of War and Peace that I picked up
and to re-read Ishamael by Daniel Quinn
these were all either recommended to me or discovered through researching various things so if they look interesting add them to your lists! (Hesse is the man behind "Siddhartha")

Ya know what is actually fun? I find it to be great fun to go back & read all of the books that you were supposed to read when you were in high school English. Most of us just read the cliff notes or read just enough to pass the tests. Now I read them (Catcher in the Rye, Great Gatsby, Old Man & the Sea, To Kill A Mocking Bird etc) and I find myself enjoying them a great deal! I highly recomend this idea to anyone who is interested in reading.
Outside of that though, I am personally a biography type of guy. I enjoy reading about political figures that I admire (Rudy G, Dubbya, etc), those that I despise (Hillary, Bill etc), sports figures, people that just inspire anyone with a pulse (Todd Beamer) & the list goes on. My Biographical collection is pretty damn eclectic now that i look over at it. Anyone have any suggestions on good biographies or autobios that they have read about anyone in any scope of life?

One of the best books I've ever read is a biography about John Adams (One of our founding fathers and 2nd president) by David McCullough. If you like history, you'll love the book...if you've never been particularly interested in history (like me) then you'll learn to fall in love with it! It's not just about John Adams...all the people that revolved in his life come alive. If you like biographies, you HAVE to have this book!

If you're into politics a GREAT book is Harball by Chris Matthews - It's an eye opener for sure about the behind the scenes stuff.
