Why are asf's so difficult to find out west?
I'm a large scale rodent breeder in Slc Utah and have a few asf's just changed to muzuri block for them strait hoping to get more out of them. But I'd like to get more colony's started but I can't find anyone with em even find anyone close to Utah To delta them in through. If there so easy to breed why aren't they everywhere?

Because they're illegal to have in some states like California for example. Dont know about the other ones though.

They can become an invasive species and destroy the natural ecosystem. In california theyre illegal because they can wreak havoc on the environment and some environment are much more protected/sensitive than others.

There are still many people who breed them in CA regardless though..... I can think of a handful (including Freedom Breeder)

Just like how its illegal to own ferrets, yet the highest population in the country resides in CA. :/

Re: Why are asf's so difficult to find out west?
When I moved out west from the east coast, I was really surprised at how tough they are to find out here. All I managed to find was one breeder, a nine hour drive one way away from me. I took all he could part with, though, to make it worth that trip.

    Good luck!

I searched high and low, and there was ONE local guy who bred them. I got my start with 3 1.3 from him but eventually they were all in-bred... (no other new blood available) that despite the vet care / bills, developed the pappiloma (sp?) warts. He lives in Albany. Last I knew, he still raised 'em.

Now that I'm in Eagle, ID...just outside of Boise, I'm looking for some to start over. :(:tears:

    I'm w/U Skyetone.....If I can find some around here...............

BTW, are you set up to sell FT rats of all sizes and mice??? Huh, huh?!???!! If so, let's talk PM!!!!! My regular vendor went OOB, so now I'm ordering from CA and paying out the nose for the shipping. *Sheesh*....Would be interested in talking business with you. :)
