    Ball Python ID?
I recently rescued a female supposed to be normal ball python. And a male supposed to be pastel ball python. I would just like to get some thoughts and opinions on what you guys think? The first two pictures are the female, and the last picture is the male. for some reason it wont let me upload the pictures so heres the link to another forum that i posted the same thing and it worked..

Yes, the female in the first two pics looks like a normal to me and the male looks like a normal to me too. Just my .02

Do you have a photobucket account? That's how I upload: upload a pic and paste the pic's [img] code here. As for telling, the female's coloring tells me that it's a normal to me - I'm not seeing any other dark morph in her (ie black pastel, cinny, chocolate, etc) since those dark morphs have telling patterns and characteristics. As for the male I looked at him a good while (he has some banding that is seen on a lot of pastels) but overall the coloring and the lack of the "brown stripe" that's a characteristic on darkened (browned out) pastels makes me want to say he's a normal. A light colored normal with blushing, just not a pastel IMO. How about posting a belly pic and head pic of the male? That might help a lot in deciding what he is (or is not).

    Here's my pastel for comparison:

    And my darkest normal girl:

I'm not seeing any pastel but I would like to see a couple clear belly shots of the male. Those orange flames are interesting.

The female is a normal. Not sure what the male is from those pics, but it doesn't look normal. Better pics of him would help you out more. Head shot, full body shot and belly. Not to mention proper lighting. Which of those pics accurately shows his color? The 1st, 2nd or 3rd? They are all 3 different.

All of these picture are taken with the flash off and the basement lights on. They are just regular florescent tube lights. The other pictures in the first post looked different because i did it with the flash on for one picture of each. Thanks:)

^ With those pics IMO the female is still a normal and the male is definitely NO pastel. After seeing those belly shots and some side flaming I believe him to be a yellowbelly so I retract my vote that the male is a normal :) He's no pastel though IMO.

Here's my pastel's belly for comparison (pastels need clean white bellies with no marks):

And here's my little YB's belly:

Yes that's why I wanted to see pics of the males belly.. I had a feeling. I think he's a yellow belly also. Very distinct belly pattern.

First I was like "Dark normal female and nice normal male" BUT that belly shot screams YB. Congrats:gj:

Heck yea! I got him for 40 bucks labeled as a pastel. I wish i had something to weigh them on to see how they are doing. Both are eating exceptionally well. The female didnt eat for 7months before she came to me. How much to yellow bellys usually go for just wondering? And me and my friend were thinking about just interbreeding some snakes. He is going to get a male and a female bp. And i will probably get another female of some morph. What would you guys suggest?? Im excited and anxious knowing its a YB. This whole time ive been thinking pastel!:P

Well, if you get a female yellow belly you can make Ivorys. YB pastels are nice because the YB gene cleans up the pastel gene and makes it brighter. Those are probably the two most affordable morphs. Then there are Lessers and Mojave for slightly more. The combos between them and a YB are not as dramatic but still nice.

Go to world of ball pythons and start looking up different ball pythons that carry the YB gene. You can get an idea if what the different combos look like.

Oh Believe me, ive been on their. Thats what made my interest in them lol. My buddy was thinking about getting a female yellow belly and a male spider. And ill probably get a female pastel to breed with the yellow belly. That way we can still make bumblebees because me and my friend both love those! Any suggestions or advice?
