Just got a Volta region WC female!
Sub Saharan, Volta WC, whichever you wanna call it, she's a giant! She's only 3600 grams right now, but she's almost 6' long, too!
She really has a huge head, and if she were to be filled out like my regular 3500 gram females, she'd be in the 5000-6000 gram range. She has huge follicles. I'm hoping she paired in the wild and has the giant babies! (meaning they'll grow huge, not necessarily hatch huge...).
Anyway, just wanted to show a head pic, to show how huge her head is.

Now that's one girl you may want to avoid getting bit by.

haha... She acts every bit as nice as any CB I have. I wasn't sure what to expect, as this is my first WC, but she is super sweet. Just HUGE! I can't wait til she gets really big.

Can we see a pic of the whole body?? I would live to see that!!

She's not very cooperative, but it looks like she's about 5'-10" straight. Blurry pic, too...sorry.

Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
Is she from outback reptiles?
-
I've been wanting to get my hands on one of the monster imports! Very cool addition (I want a giant baby!)
-
Yes, from Outback reptiles.
I'll keep you in mind if she lays eggs, Erica.

Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
Sign me up for a female baby!
-
That's awesome! I've never seen an adult, only heard of them. I have a CH Saharan female I'm (im)patiently waiting to grow up enough to breed. She was a whopper at 49 grams when I got her but she's making up lost time, lol! Hope your girl takes off for you and congratulations on getting her; can't wait to see how big she gets as she ages.
-
Haha, so you were the one who beat me to the payment on this girl. I had to attempt to convince the girlfriend that she wouldn't have a nasty temperament which took a while. Then she got snatched up :O. Grats man, hope she does good for you. :gj:
-
Just curious, hows her feeding response? That was the other concern the GF had.
-
Very nice! We happen to have 2 "Sub Saharan" (allthough ALL Ball Pythons are sub saharan) females that are 3500-4k grams. They should be bigger but they were loaned out and didn't come back in as good of shape as they left in. :( They are doing much better now and are packing it on.
-
Holy cow she looks huge!!!
-
I haven't offered food yet. Just got her 5 days ago. I'm planning on ultrasounding her soon to check follicle size and condition.. If they're still watery, she may still eat. If the calcification (if that's the right term..) has started, she's likely already on the breeding/building fast for the season. We'll see.
Not entirely sure how many females I'll let go... I love BPs, but I also love bigger snakes. A bigger BP has been a hope and dream of mine for a while. And you know you can't have just one!

How much does one cost from outback?

Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
I saw them from $350-$400 at outback
-
Dang lol, thought they would be cheaper, unless they treated them for everything before hand.

Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
They do treat everything when it gets in. I would pay that kind of money for a snake that gets up to 7000+ grams. Especially if I had a coral glow or GHI male
-
Wow that's a big snake!!!! I didn't know they got that big!!

I paid $400 plus shipping. They did treat her for everything first. It was about 6 weeks from the time she was collected to the time I got her.
-
sign me up for a female as well shes huge! i have been thinking about getting one of these also, it is just and amazing snake to have in a breeding line up, you can get huge clutches from her or get some huge babies!
-
Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
Yeah. Ian said that the biggest one he had ever gotten was over 7000 grams and laid 20 something eggs. He also said that he saw one in Africa that was over 8000 grams and had laid around 30 eggs
-
30 eggs!!!!! Holy Cow!!!! That's crazy!
-
Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
That's why I said I would get a few of those if I had a male coral glow or GHI
-
I'll have a male trick in Feb or March...but he'll be here too late to do anything with this girl this year. I really do hope she's just gravid from the wild. We'll see.
-
Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
There is alway next year when she will be even bigger!
-
Yeah my plan was to take an Axanthic Killer Bee to this girl if I got her, was going to hold back all the het ax bumble bees and outcross with my enchi and calico stuff. I've heard that the gigantism gene is dominant so you should have 50% or so of the offspring giants. The only way to tell is to raise the females up to around 600g or so, the gigantism ones should take off way ahead of the others after 600g.
-
I'm told I should be able to tell by the larger heads. The "giant" babies supposedly have a little bit larger head. I'll be growing them up some before any are let go, I think. I haven't heard definitive answers on whether its like a dominant trait or not. I would expect it to act like a polymorphism thing...where there will be a mix of both.
-
Woohoo!!!! We ultrasounded tonight, and the Volta WC has 46mm follicles!! She should ovy any time now! Gravid from the wild! That means the babies should all be the larger ones! Or at least they have a greater chance of it.
-
Exciting! Keep us updated (pics? :please: )
-
Don't have ultrasound pics. I should get some one of these times.

Nice! How many?
I have a Huge Volta girl that laid 19 eggs!!!
-
She looks like my Tatari!
I love my girl, she came to me gravid and laid 13 eggs, but I was new and lost the entire clutch. :(
Biggest problem is getting them to eat. I've offered rats, gerbils, hamsters, ASF, everything but chicks. She's a sporadic eater at best. Took me 6 months to get her to take her first meal, and that was after laying her clutch. She ate off and on for about 3 months, then stopped again. When I started paring her the following season, she ate pretty regularly up through her glow, then stopped again. She did not lay for me this year, and has never taken a meal since her glow, about 7 months. Her weight holds steady though, so I just try to be patient. I have hopes when I begin pairing this week, it will kick start her feeding like it did last season.
Hopefully I can coax some eggs from her this year.
Gale

Just after she arrived, I felt and counted at least 12 follicles. I'd be elated with that many. Any more than that would be great, too. I'm hoping for a clutch of large babies that will all get this larger size. That would rock!
As for feeding, that's what I've heard is the biggest challenge with any WC. I'm crossing fingers that she'll take to eating, but we'll see.
-
Not to hijack the thread or anything but I purchased a WC gravid "possible" sub saharan last weekend from Outback. She has a slightly smaller head then the usual Volta Region girls but her head and body is still massive compared to a regular normal. If your at all interested maybe we could work out some bloodline trades if my girl does hatch out some giants? I'm thinking she should lay right around Feb 5th.
-
:snake: oh!!! she's a beauty!!! Congrats.
-
I'm going to be watching adds next year from them. I need to do some serious snake room building this weekend so I can get another rack. She looks huge!
-
I keep checking out back an never see them, what do these girls tend to run?
-
$400 plus shipping is what I paid. They treat them for ticks/mites, and worms/parasites.
Thanks all for the well wishes! I'll post in the breeding section when she lays. Hope they're good eggs!
-
Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
We are all hoping they are a bunch of good eggs
-

I don't know what their website is but they advertise on kingsnake.com if you go in the classifieds and use the search by account function for them it will show you all of their ads. I usually find them that way and then call Josh if I want what they have.
-
I had emailed Josh at Outback Reptiles last Spring. I told him to put me on the list for wanting one when they came in. He let me know when they came, and I went for it. I'm soooooo glad I did! Ovy seems like it's just about to start! WOOHOO!!!!!

Re: Just got a Volta region WC female!
