Will keeping while light on all night cause any issues?
My room gets rather cold and with the winter weather coming in I need ways to keep the tank warm. I have 2 bulbs above the tank that get warm and do a great job bumping the internal temp of the tank while keeping humidity at good levels.

My question is will keeping the light running all night cause any problems? When she's in her hide she has enough shade to hide from the light.

Most creatures on this planet follow a circadian rhythm. http://www.nigms.nih.gov/Education/F...ianRhythms.htm

Having the light on 24/7 will likely disrupt that rhythm and is not at all recommended.
An easy solution is to get a heat emitter rather than using light emitting bulbs.

However, practical experience also says that only in rare instances will it make a difference. For most balls I suspect, and have proven myself, that it makes no difference, especially if there is a dark hide available.

That's what I'm hoping for, it won't bother her as long as there's a dark hide. Well I will try it out and see if it affects her negatively in any way.

You could also buy a bulb like this. http://www.zilla-rules.com/products/...black-heat.htm I have one and it emits a soft light that's really dim.

I used to keep the lights on 24/7 in my tanks. Snakes didn't care at all. They would still only come out late in the day and when hungry and still hide most of the day!!!

You could use a "night time" light if your worried about it. Or a CHE (ceramic heat emitter)...

CHE's do not work very well inside PVC cages, so what is your set up look like, pvc cage, tank, other? I have been wondering the same thing too because I plan on getting some PVC cages but need to figure out how to raise the ambient temps.

I just had to get a small space heater for the snake room, which is kind of ridiculous considering we only turned off the AC last week (I swear Phoenix is some kind of cosmic joke). I got a really nice/safe one off amazon for $40 delivered that has a built in thermostat. That, combined with a $25 humidifier (Honeywell warm mist model from Target) has turned the spare bedroom into a snake friendly little jungle environment that I no longer have to mist twice a day.

Infrared or black night bulbs work very well for running heat 24/7. I use both for my 10 and 20 gal long. For your 20 gal long you can use either, but you'll have to have a 75watt red bulb or a 100watt black night bulb. The red bulb is stronger and puts out more light to view your animal(s).

I use a ceramic heat emitter, mainly because they last forever and the one I have has a crazy awesome warranty. But other then that I would try the infared bulbs. They're fairly cheap and keep the tank nice and toasty. Plus, you can get a cool red ambient glow, if your into that kinda thing.

I totally forgot that I had a 75 watt red bulb tucked away :rolleye2:. Got it setup on a timer with a dimer switch, now it's nice and warm in the tank.

Thanks for reminding me of what I had :D
