    Unique bumblebee? Or something more?
Hi, this girl came from what I thought was a pastel to spider pairing; however, she is unlike any bumblebee i've seen before.
She has far more reduced patterning than i've known and she lacks the characteristic head pattern.

I've asked a few breeders and some say she's just a bumblebee and nothing more whereas others are suggesting she may be an enchibee.

I believe enchi would help describe the reduced patterning, but not the clear head.

I'd really like to know what other people think, so here are a few pictures.

    Thanks, Dean

    Whatever she is, she's gorgeous.

Was she a premie or had any issues in incubation or hatching? If she was, that would explain it a lot easier.

Could it be a killer bee? She's very pretty.

Hard to say if it's something else without seeing the parents. It definitely is nice looking and unique :gj:

Don't think it is a Killerbee it is too dark and the head isn't the right color. Incubation issues, as someone mentioned, could cause unusual coloring. Even if it is incubation issues that caused it, I'd still hold it back and see if I could reproduce it. It is a very nice baby.

Looks to have a third gene at play. Very nice holdback for sure time to start investigating the parents.

She can't be an enchi bee unless one of the parents was an enchi spider or an enchi pastel.

It could carry something similar to the Bald gene NERD is working with. Very good looking bee!

    What an ugly bee..
I think you should give it to me. I'll take it off your hands ;)

Looks a tad FireFly-ish. Maybe a Fire gene tossed in the parents that wasn't really apparent??

I looked at the pic first and thought enchi-bee right away. Of course one for the parents would have to be enchi. Or it could be from incubation stress. Either way she is a holdback for sure. Any pics of the parents and siblings from the clutch?

If she is just a bee and maintains that coloring, she is the nicest bee out there. I'd keep her no matter what.

Looks like a desert bumblebee to me. did you buy this from a breeder or produce it yourself?

Re: Unique bumblebee? Or something more?
She was bred by myself from a male pastel and female spider. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary with either of the parents at the time, so I did not expect any other genes.
Unfortunately, both parents are no longer with me anymore, however if needs be I could search through some old pictures? I have ones of the pastel but not really any of the spider.
As for incubation, the clutch was actually overdue and at around 62 days, we cut the eggs and waited almost another week for the babies to exit the egg. I did think about incubation to be a cause, maybe if she was premature I'd imagine the pigment wouldn't have come through, but with her being overdue I'm not sure.

Thanks for everyone's replies so far

that was the first thing that popped into my head.
I do hope we're wrong, with the issues desert gened females have. :(

I agree with some of the others.. looks like a third gene snuck in there. Could be incubation issues, but I think you would have more issues.

Definitely post pics of the parents and clutch if you can find them. My guess would be some type of reduce pattern third gene (especially if some of the other clutch mates have a similar look to them).
