lol I'm really excited for it! Me and my bf are going to wait a bit to see it though so it's not so packed. The LOTR trilogy are some of my all-time favorite movies and I adored the books too. I've literally seen the Return of the King over thirty times....and I have all the soundtracks :P

I think Peter Jackson and the producers would know well enough that they'd have to produce nothing short of an amazing follow up to the LOTR movies... there would be massive repercussions if they didn't.

We went and saw it last night. I really enjoyed it :D
TEENCY bit too long for my liking, but it was definitely worth it. Love the wit from the characters.

My opinion is that it's good, but not as amazing as LOTR. Stretching a roughly 400 page book into three movies is just ludicrous.

This was my concern when I heard it was going to be one of three movies. I expect it to be pretty good, but I doubt it can compete with the LOTR trilogy. My family will be seeing it over xmas break:banana:.

I read the book back in the late 70's and saw the crummy TV cartoon movie a half dozen times and am really looking forward to this new one,but y'all are saying it's one of three new films? Bout to look that up.

I will add that it is 2hrs 46 mins. But it was over before I knew it. It's didn't feel like 3 hours. I was like "That's it!" So the pacing is stellar.

And just you know, it was supposed to just 2 movies but they shot so much footage that Peter Jackson turned it into a trilogy because 2 4 hours moving was asking too much and it would have been a shame to cut a bunch of stuff out.

I really liked it. Much much much better than the crappy old '70's cartoon one. Excited for the next!

I cannot wait to see this movie! I was just at the movie theater last night to see Lincoln. I love the LOTR so I know I will like this movie.

Saw this last night and loved it!! I also have to say, as someone who has pretty much always read the book before I see the movie, the nature of adaptations is that there are ALWAYS bits that are left out, no matter how long the book. And it's always so disappointing! The hobbit is such and good story that I for one am thrilled they are separating it. If it allows for a book to be fully (or at least more fully) translated to film instead of a two hour abridged version, I'd watch 3 part versions of any book to movie adaptation.

I've been following the production Vlog on you tube since they anounced they were making it. Just to let you know what kind of a movie to expect or that you've seen. This movie had the same budget as all three LOTR movies combined. They did things like made Shire real all the Hobbit holes are real not just fronts, and the Dwarf market is to scale and build complete..I for one am excited to see it..

LOL well yea, for what it was and the time period it was great, they hadn't made any of it into movies yet at that time. However, after the recent-ish LOTR's movies they really had to update it. I liked it a lot when I was little but comparatively not great.

If you get the chance, watch it in Imax HFR (high frame rate) 3D. It plays at 48 frames per second as opposed to the normal 24 frames per second that movies play at. It's shockingly crystal clear, and will make you change your mind about 3D movies (if you dislike them). The face of fast-paced cinema and action movies have now changed with HFR.

And boo to all of you that dislike the cartoon! ♫Chip the glasses and crack the plates, that's what Bilbo Baggins hates!♫
