Wtf is wrong with you?!
So last night my spider ball python decided to take a long drink after eating a couple of soft furs. I switched off the light and went to bed.
When I woke up today, she was in the exact same position, with her head resting inside the water dish. I knew that she must be dead. I felt absolute shock and panic. She is supposed to be laying eggs for me this season, I've had her for three years without issues and then she dies for no reason?!
I went to open her tub, and she jolted awake and coiled back like I was just a complete jerk for startling her like that. WTF?
Has your ball python ever scared you into thinking it was dead? On a side note, WHY would a ball python sleep all stretched out with their FACE IN THEIR WATER DISH for HOURS?

Re: Wtf is wrong with you?!
Lmao that's the wonderful spider gene at its best. Never had one do exactly that but I've had spiders freak me out thinking they must have passed.
-
Lol my bees lay upside down. Freaks me out every time
-
Hahaha. Sorry, I don't think its funny you thought she was dead! But it is funny she laid out like that and got startled.
Spiders are a funny bunch. :)
-
Have you never passed out after a big meal? :p
I'm glad she is ok.
-
Yeah, I dunno what it is about spiders.
-
I have to poke my male bee every time I open the tub. I'm sure if I listen closely enough I'll hear him snoring.

Re: Wtf is wrong with you?!
My spider was laying in his hide all twisted and sort of upside down. My heart stopped.. I'm noticing a pattern with this thread..
-
I don't have any spiders but my normals have done this to me once or twice when they were in a deep sleep. It makes my heart stop everytime.
-
My cinni male wedged his head like sideways in between the side of the tub and the water dish and decided to sleep like that one time. Scared me a lil bit but he freaked out like he always does when i open his tub so i knew he must be ok lol

Re: Wtf is wrong with you?!
My baby spider is like that too.. She sleeps half hanging off of stuff, or wedged funny..
My cinni male got himself stuck between his hide and the back of this terrarium and I had to pull everything out to get him out and he huffed and puffed the whole time like I was the bad guy :p

I know right, they're so ungrateful when you check to make sure they aren't dead or injured.

Ayup.
My adult spider is as normal as a spider can be (just a tiny head wobble @ feeding time), but one of his babies from this year is SUPER weird... he doesn't really wobble, but twists his head and flips his body in the strangest ways. It's not a constant thing, so I don't feel he's suffering any, but he does it frequently enough that it no longer scares me. Those crazy spiders, I swear! A few examples of my little guy:
He stayed like this for a good 5+ minutes, before I finally poked him "back to reality." I think this is his version of periscoping?

And this is from when he ate a meal upside-down... talk about looking dead! :O

I feel like my spider should be in a locked padded tub so she cant hurt herself.... Mulitple times i w have walked in the room and herad thumping and 1st thought is o crap i left a rat in someone cage... Nope just my spider hitting her head against the side o the tub. Hes gunna knock her self out one of these days..
Wait till your females start laying inverted while developing... Gets me everytime

But it's a good sign!

This is my female bee! Its not nice thinking they are dead especially when they don't move when you prod them the first time!

A spider het pied gave me a freak out like that. This is how he was under his hide, sleeping! He was in isolation due to being a new pick-up. This one belonged to my dad (he returned it).

Oh man, these pictures are hilarious. Now I don't feel quite so angry at Charlotte.

Just last night my BP slide sideways while crawling against the glass and fell in his water dish. His head was underwater sideways and his body was curled over the top of him. And he just sat there. I started panicking because the position his head was in while submersed under water and his sudden lack of movement made me think he was dead. when I opened the enclosure and touched him he waited like 2 seconds to quickley hop out of the water and act like nothing happend except my intrusion. :/ weird behavior.

Hmm. My spider doesn't do that. Now I'm the weird one lol!

See, this kind of thing is exactly why I could never get in to the spider gene. My weak heart couldn't take stuff like this happening on a regular basis. I'd open a tub and see that, and I'd be the one dead on the floor.:disbelief

I have four snakes with the spider gene and I have never seen anything this severe. Just a slight wobble when feeding. Maybe i am just lucky :)

Same. I just couldn't do it. I'd feel bad.

We had a waterfall in my girls' tank for the longest time; she would climb up to the top, then sloooowly bend over backwards and fall off. NO idea why she did it. And she'd go right back up and do it again! She loved doing backbends... That was the only sign of her "wobble" I ever saw, besides her little excited head shake when she smelled rodents.
She'd also stuff herself behind the waterfall until we filled the space up with paper towels. One time we left the bottom part off and she went INSIDE it! It was actually really funny because the inside is hollow, so her unhappy huff and puffs were amplified like she was in a cave.
Needless to say, no more waterfalls.

Re: Wtf is wrong with you?!
Now I want a spider... Salem knows how to give kisses (Bumps your face with his nose), Shilo knows how to Shake (When you touch his tail, granted he wasn't sleeping, he will wrap around it.) Now I need a spider that plays dead! :>

I thought mine was bad. That little baby takes the special ribbon. Would have freaked me out bad to see that!
-
I found my female bee on her back many times thinking she died but she just rights herself and like hay you bringing me more food yet
