    Newest pets...
I'm working on getting them a better enclosure, because right now they are in a 20L. It is big enough for them for now but I am going to get them a nice custom enclosure built after the new year so that they can feel more at home. Here are some pictures, lest Mike or anyone else try to say that it didn't really happen!

These guys are incredibly beautiful and I can't begin to express how excited I am to be working with them! Thanks for looking.

Those are some super cute little boogers. Hard to believe how big they get. Nice looking guitar too. Keep us updated, can't wait to see them fully grown. You are still planning on dispatching them or gonna keep them as pets?

I thought I saw in another thread awhile back that he plans to dispatch them to his belly. They look delicious! :)

All kidding aside, did I just make that up or did I actually see that somewhere? It seems like I did...

Yes it was posted a while back about butchering them. But look how darn cute they are. Of course I think the same thing when I get my chickens and dispatch them with almost a sense of gratitude. Not gratitude of killing, but of raising my own food, knowing what's going into it, and putting it down the most humane way possible.

    Bruce, good luck either way!

Yeah, I'm already thinking that I won't be able to eat them at this point... LOL Oh well!

I used to have an American Alligator that I rescued from a college kid who was going to put him in the Charles River in Boston. I took a kiddie pool and caged in the top with chicken wire and the heat/uv rested on top of the wire. He was a LOT of fun, especially at feeding time. Handling is a blast while also not being quite as dangerous as venomous snakes. When he got too big for me to house indoors with the space I had (6 feet or so and an 8x4 pond) I donated him to a refuge near here. When I own a house I may build a huge custom enclosure and get another.

You're going to be so happy when you get to watch your first death roll! They don't do it a lot so it is quite a treat.

This happened to me with chickens. When it's an idea, you can't even wait to get that thing into the oven! Then it becomes a reality and it takes about 7 minutes for you to decide that you're madly in love with this creature and there is no way in hell you're going to eat it!

Just breed them and use the babies for meat. That is what I do with my rats. My breeders will never be fed off. They will live long happy lives and when they die of old age they will get a proper burial in the back yard. The babies on the other hand, all get to the proper size and either get fed off or knocked out and thrown into the freezer.

awesome little gators by the way!

I'm curious too. A lot of critters aren't legal here (I was actually surprised to see green anacondas in the reptile store we visited last week! ) so a lot of it is foreign to me.

Something like what Mr. Lang described, and 8X4 foot enclosure. I will post pictures once I get it built!

Looking forward to those pictures too! My dad had a turtle pond when I was a kid. One of my "jobs" as a youngster was to get in the sludge and help him clean it. That was fun! lol

Also, Mr. Lang, what size was yours? Right now I'm feeding them crickets and rosy minnows. I suppose they are large enough to eat pinky mice but they would make a complete mess in the tank eating them.

8x4 seems small. Don't the males get over 10' ?

They do, but this should last until they are 4' long or so.
