    Hi all,
This morning we had a boa (common) dropped of to us. We headed straight for the vet for a tail amputation.
Apparently the snake was burned badly on the tip of the tail. The girl did bring it to a vet, actually the same vet we used (which was convenient to already have some medical history) The girl treated the snake appropriately with antibiotic injections and burn cream.
Untill the snake got agressive. She simply wasn't comphtorable with him attacking, and just couldn't get near him, (which is understandable) to continue with his treatments.
So he arrived this morning. and without having treatments for the last four days, his tail became extremely necroptic. So off to the vet.
My husband and I were thrilled to once again be able to assist in surgery and learn from our vet.
The snake came out well. Just with out a tail.
I'll try and post pictures soon. and we hope for the best with his healing process.
I'll keep you guys updated on his progress if you would like.
    Thanks
    Rusty

Yes, please keep us updated! At least the girl knew she had to find help, rather than let the poor thing waste away. Just wish she'd done it sooner!

I would like the updates too. I hate that she let it last that long without keeping up the treatments, but at least she'd started out well and you had the history to go on. I hope he recovers well.

    Thanks all,
The woman he came from was trying, which is nice to see. Our vet (who previosly) saw him, was evenm commenting on how nasty he got in just a few days, attitude wise.
He was one of the hissiest little boas I've seen in a while. But I would be the smae way with a dead tail. I'll try and post pictures, it is still an "iffy" period of time, as it can take some time for a reptile to get back to normal after surgery.
    OK, gotta get to work

It's sad that the poor thing had to get that far-gone. But circumstances happen, I guess. Glad the snake is in Rusty's hands; couldn't imagine a better place for it now. :)

He is doing well today, active and "patrolling" his area.

Sorry for the bad quality, still don't have a nice cam.
    But he is progressing well

handsome fella - interested to see what that tail looks like once he heals, I hope the stress wasn't too much for him! (fingers crossed for you and he!)

How much of his tail did he have to lose?

I was curious about that, too. I'm guessing, since you didn't mention it, that it was a small enough section that it didn't extend into the body too far and won't be interfering with his bodily functions?

we had to take off approx, 5 inches or so, and sadly, he isn't a he anymore. We know he can still have his normal "functions". But he is snipped none the less. The muscles pulling up the hemipenes (sp?) and 75% of the tissue around the organ was necrotic. So it had to be taken off.
He is still awake and "bitey" today. All in all good signs.

good to hear!! I really am hopin' for this one. Wow! you're up early! And I'm up late... I'm off to bed (had to read a book and write a book report and didn't get home from work until 10:30pm )- oh and to any readers out there - read "Hardball" by Chris Matthews ... REALLY cool book on the inside game of how politics is played or just PM me and I'll send you my book report lol.
    ANYWAY
I'm glad he... or it rather is up and about and bitey! sorry to change topics... I'm just a bit delerious... see you in the morning!

Rusty, I was really more concerned with bowel function than reproductive because it more directly affects the snake's health. It's terrible that the tissue went necrotic but good that he can still pass stool and urates normally.

It's good to see that he's active. I'd imagine that he used to be a docile snake, but the nippiness is a result of his being fed up with the treatments that the girl was administering. If I were her I would have just been understanding and a bit more careful with dealing w/him. But luckily, there are awesome people like Rusty who rescue these guys when their owners fail them.

    Hey guys,
Here is two updated pictures of stitch..lol
    I just love "it's" face:

It amazes me how well he recovered. His facial features are very defined also. I wonder what he is exactly. I just sum them all into common boa..
I wonder if there is a definate way to tell.
Any suggestions from you Boa lovers?
    Thanks
