I'm still wondering if I want to breed rats for my bp. What would be a good killing method?I would like to freeze them after their dead because I feed f/t rodents to my bp. Could you use rubbing alcohal to make them pass out and then freeze them?

    Thanks!

CO2 is definately the best way to go - it's like putting them to sleep. Plus there are no possible residue effects that could end up in your snake. And you can do large numbers at one time.

Just put them in a bag and smack em against the floor, wall, etc. Quick, easy, and cost effective.

Yeah...if/when I end up breeding my own feeders, CO2 is the way I'll go.

I usually do the "whack" method. But I'll probably be experimenting with cO2 or dry ice soon, because my baby rats are growing really fast and I do not want them getting too big for my bci and smaller bp to eat.
Breeding rats is pretty easy, as long as you have a healthy female to start out with. Both of the ones I have now are great mothers; one even gave me a NICE bite on my finger when I was removing one of the fuzzies to feed my bci. Not sure I blame her, though. It was my fault for getting too close, but BOY did she dart across that tank when my hand came in!

Co2 is the best way to go for a mass killing. I don't think anyone here wants to be smacking or breaking the spinal cord on 40- 50 rats. That could end up being a mess. I use dry ice over Co2 canisters only because dry ice is cool to play with when your done. and all the neighborhood kids enjoy it also.

Yes, I got him a little over a month ago. He is growing like a weed. There are more pics of him in my post in the Photos forum from a few days ago. :)

Where can you buy dry ice? How do you play with it? :)

I buy it at Publix Grocery store here in georgia. YOu can find it at halloween stores and party stores also. Just ask around, its cheap. By playing with it, i mean, making fog and scaring the kids and making clouds for them. THey love the stuff. Just fill a pitcher with about 3 inches of warm water and drop some in and you get a cloud machine.

To kill the mice/rats, put them in a sweater box (or smaller depending on how many rats/mice) and then put in a bowl of warm water. Then drop in some chunks of dryice and seal the lid, leaving a small small smalll opening for release so it doenst explode.

Be careful too not touch it with your bare hands for it will burn you
