Snake hook!
Is it worth having one, just in case you need to get your snake out and is afraid of being bit?

With a ball python only, I'll say no

Not with a ball python. Unless maybe you have like a monster 5kg female with a bad attitude lol.

I'd say yes, you can get good one for pretty cheap. My take is better to have one and never need it then not having it and coming into a situation where it could help. I got one, used it a few times to get the basic handling skills and never touched it since but it's always on hand when I plan to open a tank/rack or handle a snake.

No snake hook here.
When one of my bigger snakes is grumpy and I have to take it out and I know they are going to bite me I put on my leather/kevlar gloves I wear when motorcycling lol. Then I make sure one of my hands is closer to the head so they cant reach out and get me.
Never been bit yet!

For bps, no hook. Even if they tag you it doesn't hurt. When my boas are grown, maybe. Will see how their attitudes are. For now, not needed at all.

I have one because i have my 10 year male who thinks everything is food when his tub opens. had to take a few bites before just saying screw it and get one. its really only something to consider if you have one that is really really bad. otherwise a tag here and there who cares.

For about 99.999% of the time you won't need a hook for a ball python, even a big one. But, I will say that having a 6' long, 3700 gram female launch herself out of her tub at eye level when you are not fast enough with her dinner will give anyone a reason to back up a couple of steps while you re-start your heart.
Other than that, truthfully it is a matter of comfort. I know some people who are just getting into ball pythons and they get a bigger one, usually a rescue, a hook can help until you get confidant. But as far as bites go, most of the time they are a non event. Half the time there isn't even any blood.

I would normally say no, however, that depends. When my females are in this time of year (around breeding time), they are vey aggressive feeders. I've got three or four females that will lunge at anything that moves the moment you open their tub. When I feed, I usually will use a hook to open their tub. Otherwise, I get tagged because my hand is near the lip of the tub.
So, under normal cirmstances, I'd say no you don't need a hook. But, there are exceptions. Also, the hook comes in handy if you go field herping. Never hurts to have one.

I used to think I didn't need one, until I got one.
Now I use it all the time. It's plain useful. Granted I also have animals other than BPs, I don't go into my blood's home without my hook. Midwest tongs for the win :D
If you get one, the worst thing that will happen is you'll only SOMETIMES use it.

I got one use it when my carpet is angry she also bent it so I made a new one I don't use it much tho nice to have when needed
