    What are the chances?
A bp can break out an enclosure? Why do non snake owners assume this? Can they really do this?

If done correctly and responsibly, impossible.

I haven't had a snake break outta a tank I've properly latched, however I did forget to completely close my balls tank while I was feeding him and he ate quick snuck out and got into my 12 string guitar. Now I think that breaking out would be more with a rack system where the top of the tub isn't as close to the rack as necessary letting the ball squeeze out, balls can fit into stupidly small spaces when they want.

If your cage is setup properly and secured with locks, the snake cannot and will not get out.

However, if you have cages that are haphazardly put together, or you forget to lock the cage, etc, etc, they can and do often escape.

I think there's a big difference between a proper snake enclosure (hinges and latches, some type of lock, etc.) and resting a screen lid on a glass tank under the assumption that a snake can't nose its way out. Of course, with any type of enclosure there's always room for human error.

Haha my big carpet girl has bungee cords around her tub cuz it's out on a table in my room and she can open it with ease if there not on there.

I need to start using bungees! I have a ratsnake that can literally get out of anything. He squeezes out like a slug of slime. I have no idea how he does it, but he can get out of faunariums, kritter keepers, racks, clamped cages.

I've heard of snakes getting out of clamped cages loaded with books on top. They're very good at finding that one weak spot in the lid. I wouldn't say it's impossible, but using a locked front opening cage makes the possibility very very low!

Oh yes they can. They spend a lot of time every day trying to find a way out of their enclosure. All it takes is one time of not getting the latch done right, or keeping them in a cage that wasn't designed for snakes -tank with screen lid.

I think all of us that have been doing this for a while have had an escapee at some point, and more than likely because of stupidity on our part ;)

Bungees and luggage straps were things I never thought I'd be using daily. Used to pile old textbooks on top when they got to the bigger non-locking tubs, but that got very old very fast

I had one get out years ago because I didn't weigh down the screen top. It took all of 15 seconds to find her behind my fridge.

When someone at my store looking at pythons and corn snakes asks, "what if they get out?" My response is simply, "what if they don't?"

Then I say, "if by some mistake YOU leave the chance for the snake to get out and it does. It will simply be curled up in a dark corner or sitting near the closest electronic item putting out heat. You pick them up and put them back in their cage. Then figure out how it got out and correct that issue.
