Favorite band/artist?
Sitting here, having a beer, fresh out of work! ;) Thought I'd ask who's your favorite band/recording artist? Mine, if I had to pick one, would prolly be Motorhead. Go!

I might be able to narrow it down to 3-4 PER GENRE if I really worked at it. :)

Wait so I can't pick the Beatles?
Fine how about the man in black Johnny Cash. But it's got to include his work with other artists. Or Tom Petty again has to include his work with other artists. Who ever I were to pick they'd have to have a large enough discography that I could listen for a while and not hear the same track over and over.

Lol no you can. I know plenty of people like them. I personally just hate them.
Johnny Cash was good. His version of Hurt is probably one of the most emotional songs ive ever heard. Trent Reznor is a musical genius, for johnny cash to out do even him deserves some props.
-
Parkway Drive is one of my fav's...But I LOVE Pantera, Down, Slayer, Mudvayne. Anything Heavy, and older stuff like Sepultura, Fear factory and Metallica. St. Anger was the worst thing ive ever heard.

Re: Favorite band/artist?
All time favorite is Pearl Jam. I have the Jeremy guy tattooed on my wrist. At least once a week someone asks me if it's a cheerleader :confusd:
Tied for second (a very close second) are Blue October, Ani Difranco, and Tori Amos.

I have to disagree with your evaluation of the Johnny Cash version of Hurt. IMO it lacks the raw emotional impact of the original, which, for me, is almost the whole point of the song. I know a lot of people like the JC version, and I suppose it makes the song accessible to those who wouldn't consider listening to NIN in the first place, but I just can't like it as well; his voice just seems flat compared to Reznor's, especially in the places in the song where Reznor edges up to a plaintive scream but holds back.
Of course, this opinion is worth what you paid for it, etc, and you're 100% welcome to disagree right back at me. :)

All time favorite has to be As I Lay Dying but i loved all that remains before shannon quit drumming for them and I like black dahlia murder also. As for country I like Luke Bryan as my favorite. Classical I'm a beethovan person all the way or trans siberian orchestra. Classics rock/ southern rock is journey. Then rap would be my man vanilla ice lol.

Re: Favorite band/artist?
Music is the one true thing that us humans do. It would exist even if you took all the money away. Someone would be compelled to compose. How many other things can you say that about. When I can't connect to anything else, there is still music. It is too hard to pick one group as I listen to so many different genres of music. But here are a few.
Loved when Grunge came on the scene.
Favorite wood be Alice in Chains, but Pearl Jam, Nirvana, STP, and Sound Garden never fail you. I think Chris Cornell has the greatest voice that ever sang hard rock.
Next, give me a girl with a piano and I'm all set.
Sarah Mclachlan (world's most angelic voice), Tori Amos, Sarah Bareilles, Missy Higgins.
Good old rock & roll
Led Zeppelin, Yes, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath
80's
The Smiths, Stabilizers, XTC, Echo and the Bunnymen
I am missing another couple hundred at least. And in there would be a mix from Buddy Holly to Bjork and Frank Sinatra to Frank Zappa and yes, even Michael Jackson, but you get the picture.
