    Old Acu-Rite Indoor/Outdoor vs. newer style Acu-Rite In/Out therm.
Has anybody used both styles of the Acu-Rite Indoor/Outdoor therm.? Was just curious if there were any preferences to one or the other. Thanks.

Which models are you asking about? There are several.

i have never seen the first one in that link at any walmart, i use the one towards the bottom of the page on the right and i like these because they have both temps and the humidity on the screen and i have had no problems so far.

I haven't seen the one on the top, either. So I just picked up the one further down the page. The top/newer one looks thinner. Thanks for the response! :headbang:

Do you know what the specs are on the new one? The old model is not very good +\-4 degrees and 10% rh it would be nice if the new one were better. Still quite expensive for what it is.

The new one looks better made. Idk if that means it is more accurate or not. Infared thermometers are the best... Lol

Wish I could find more info. on the new one. I'm planning on using the old style one unless I locate the new one. Saved the receipt! ;)
Also, been window shopping for a decent, cost effective, infrared temp. gun. Any suggestions?
It's definitely a work-in-progress tank! A little here, a little there... Just picked up an acrylic sheet and foil tape tonight. Getting closer! :D
    Can't wait to reveal it!!!

I got mine from reptile basics. it cost like $33 shipped. It's the cheapest one they have.

Have you had it long? Seem pretty reliable? Thanks, man!

I've had it for a few weeks. It is pretty nice. It's pocket sized which makes it easier to get in the back of a tub or something. I like it a lot. If you are willing to spend some money I'd get one of the more expensive ones though.

IR guns have for the most part the same accuracy (+/-2ºF) so the big differences are the DS ratio and the batteries. I like the lower DS ratios (longer ones are best used a farther distances than I ever would) so 1:1 or 4:1/6:1 and I look for common batteries AA,AAA or 9V

I use both, plus a temp gun. :) I use the 'older' model as my main meter because it reads in/out/humidity on the same unit. I velcro the unit to the center back of the cage, then place the probe on the hot side. I use a single number display version with probe for the cool side, and I double check the temps in spots around the probes with my temp gun. The gun is also useful when they're in travel tubs or we're at an expo or outreach. :)

And I got my temp gun from RBI as well. Also the 'cheapest' one. I've had it for about 4 years now and it still works great. :D
