Is this a Hidden Gene?
I recently bought a spider male and and a normal female that is supposably pos. hidden gene. Is there anyway to tell if she really might be hidden gene? Ill post pictures of both just because I can't leave my beautiful spider boy out ;p but if she is pos hidden gene what should I sell her for. And I'm planning on selling the spider for $150 does that sound like too much or too little?

Why are you selling them so quick? Idk about the genes, just curious.
-
Possible hidden gene what? Woma? Daddy? Or are you / the person you bought her from confusing "hidden gene" with het? If so, there are numerous recessive genes she "could be" het for. But if you don't know what the parents were, you won't be figuring it out without a lot of years + luck.
My opinion, you can sell her as a female normal. ~$30
The spider is a pretty boy.

Re: Is this a Hidden Gene?
Do you mean hidden gene woma?
-
Yes, Pos. Hidden Gene Woma. And I am selling them off because to prove to my father I can be successful in the hobby of breeding snakes I have to show him I can sell them he just doesn't want me have a ton of snakes be being stuck with tons snakes. Complicated story.. And I am sorry if I am getting things confused about the hidden gene woma deal. Im still new to the hobby and I'm just trying to be successful and do things the right way. I do not plan to breed anything until I get EVERYTHING I will need but it takes money to make money so unfortunately i have to let these two go I really do not want to get rid of the spider because he doesn't have the head wobble atleast I don't notice it no one bit. He has a beautiful back stripe all the way down his back that only breaks in 2 small spots and some cool markings on his face but I have too :(

Sorry about that last post doubling up I don;t know why that happened.
-
I'm assuming the guy is meaning Pos. het Hidden Gene Woma.

He said it this way though "Pos, Hidden Gene Woma"

Hidden gene woma is not recessive, so there isn't a possible, or a het. It either is or it isn't. A HGW looks like a woma. That little girl, looks like a normal to me. (I'm fairly new aswell, so any of you guys that work with HGW, feel free to correct me)
If you're looking to do well, you might want to do a bit of reading on the genetics :) there is a nice little guide here on this forum explaining genetics, and also you may want to check out www.worldofballpythons.com and browse both the genetics wizard (will get you a feel for genetics) and the morph list.
I'm currently on my phone, so linking other threads is a pain. Sorry :(

Ive read it but thanks for being helpful and suggesting it. I just didn't understand the hidden gene woma thing since I don't know everything about the morphs ha. I've been eating up all the ball python information I can since August. ha I love World of ball pythons genetic calculator and all the stuff they have on there :P I'm hoping to buy Doc Seward ball python breeding dvd soon since my birth is in 6 days a little strapped on cash at the moment ha. Thank you all for replying and being helpful i'm confident in the fact you're right she is just a normal.

But I don't think anyone answered if asking $150 for the Spider is fair or not. If anyone can tell me i'd appreciate thank you all again for your help it is greatly appreciated.

Re: Is this a Hidden Gene?
hidden gene womas are co-diminant, no poss. het. As for proving yourself as a breeder imo the way to do it is actually breeding since there is more to breeding than being able to sell snakes.
recently spiders have been going for $125 but $150 is good

HGW are distinguishable from Womas. They look different.
And yes. That girl looks normal until proven otherwise.
And the Spider price is reasonable.

JaGv you're right but this ispart of the deal for him helping me buy husbandry equipment. So basically I still have to sell them as much as I hate too :(
-
You can't be offering a snake for sale outside the For Sale/ Trade/ Adoption page, it's against the TOS. Just a heads up.

true but then you will have to buy snakes to start breeding.
-
Yep I just gotta find someone willing to help out to sell me a adult breeder but I've contacted a lot of breeders and no one is willing to sell adult females or they just don't have any to sell plus I don't have much money :/
-
I have a 09 male pastel that's waiting on females plus I need incubators before i try for my first clutch etc etc.
-
Re: Is this a Hidden Gene?
look for female normals thats a easy cheap way to start ,sometimes you can find em on craigslist for a reasonable price or negotiate the price.
an incubator depending on style you choose to build will be less than $200.
-
It sounds like you are far too worried about trying to breed and should focus more on taking care of your animals and building a collection, gaining knowledge, and the necessary equipment over time, that way you are not buying and selling snakes so quickly. Or just keep the ones you have, save your own money for the equipment. Adult breeder females are expensive, no one is going to let them go for cheep. I would say you are better off buying babies or sub adults, so they dont cost so much, since you stated you dont have much money. Then you can raise them up and save more money for incubators, baby racks, more feeders and everything else you will need to support a larger collection. It just sounds like you are trying to jump into this far too quickly, and for what?
-
How long have you had these snakes?
How are you going to put a guarantee on the health of the snakes you are flipping?
-
I'm not trying to flip them and I don't take care of every animal I own. What makes you think I don't? I'm keeping them now regardless of what my dad says.
-
I do take care** autocorrect on iPhone is poop.

Re: Is this a Hidden Gene?
The snake that you think may be a hidden gene woma definitely isn't.
This is a pic of mine. Excuse the crappy phone pic.
