Well, it happened.
There is a nearby pet store that had a 6' Red Tailed Boa (BCC I believe) that was in deplorable conditions.
They said they've had it since this past January. It was in a decent sized container (75 gallon) but the cage was full of feces, very pungent aroma, dirty water, and sitting on the ground with no heating pad or anything.
I handled him the other day just to check him out and he's nothing but a big, gentle puppy dog (minus the legs and fur). He seemed to be in good health despite how they were keeping him. So I took my wife in today just so she could see what he was like. She fell in love.
We scooped him up and bruoght him home. I spent 45 minutes cleaning and sanitizing his cage and bowl. My wife built a kind of rack out of a pallet so we could put the cage ontop of it so as to lift it off the ground some.
I had intended on adopting one from the Humane Society, but we felt that this guy needed rescuing too. So, we'll just have to save up to adopt from the rescue site too.
I'll get some pictures posted hopefully tomorrow.
No regrets. He's a keeper.
We named his Sabastian.

Sounds like a lucky little bcc you got there :) congrats.

SWEET! Congrats, Marcus!
Just for my info, what store was it? I saw an adult blood in the Pet Emporium last year whose cage was in the same condition.
-
Good for you, Marcus! Can't wait to see pictures!
-
Congrats on your new buddy. :) I'm sure he'll be much happier living with you.

It was Pet Emporium.
I really don't like doing any business there. They don't take very good care of their animals. Theyalso breed and put down their own rats for food. I don't like how they put them down. They just freeze them alive.
But I can't stand to see an animal in a bad situation either.
This snake is just the sweetest natured critter. I'll get some pics up soon.

Marcus,
I am glad to hear that the BCC is in good hands! I understand your predicament about rescueing from petsores, but sounds like there was a definate need!
I hope to see pics when you have the time. Congratulations again. For you, your family, and most of all the sweet snake!
Thanks
Rusty

Nice, clean pattern. He's very pretty!!

Gorgeous! Great name too! He's lucky you rescued him. :)
-
You should have called him Carol Anne. (Anybody get that reference?) Out of curiosity, was the light fluorescent or incandescent? Anyway, glad he's with you now and has a chance to thrive.

Nice looking BCI Good luck with him.

Incandescent

He looks pretty healthy, considering the conditions he was living in. Congrats on rescuing such a cool snake; he's one of the lucky ones.
-
Marcus, the reason I asked was because I was thinking it could either be the heat of incandescent or the vibrations of fluorescent that attracted him. Whatever the reason, it's interesting, like when they decide to stare at a ceiling fan for no known reason. :)

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback.
Here's another picture of Sebastian to give you an idea of his size. The tank that you can see part of in the pic is his. As you can see, I didn't have enough substrate so I had to use a towel temporarily until the cypress mulch got here. I don't think he minded resting on a nice soft and warmer than the bare glass bottom.
Anyway, here he is.

Wow...he really is beautiful. How rich is the color in his tail?

The color in the tail isn't that rich. Just kind of a reddish brownish color. He's a big 'ol puppy dog!
