What's the best way to fatten her up without doing more harm to her?

Slow and steady. Offer her a small meal once every 7-10 days, and leave her alone as much as you can. Small rat should be small enough, but might want to wait until our rescue savvy members chime in.

Don't rush it though, if you try and get her to eat too much too fast she might regurge.

She's been eating 1-2 mice once a week. I can give her a 150 gram rat but I don't want to hurt her.

    Re: Rescue
As far as feeding goes, I would wait a week then offer a small rat. See how she does then offer another small rat in 5 days then slowly increase rat size.

After she has settled in for a week, offer a small rat. And by small, I mean a smallish small. See how she does with it. I don't think I'd jump right into a 5 day feeding schedule. That might be too much stress on her system, especially with the change in prey item. 7 days is the shortest I would go until you've gotten a few meals in her successfully without any regurges or other issues. If she can handle the smallish small rats, after 3-4 feedings maybe move up to larger small rats and so forth. As long as she continues to hold them down and put on weight, you should be able to gradually increase her prey size to suit her growth. But until she has eaten a few meals, I would leave her alone to rest and recuperate in proper husbandry conditions...which from the look of her I would guess she has been lacking. Poor baby.

She looks really scarred up too, poor thing. Agreed on feeding smaller to start her out.

The tub she's in is abt 15" in the pic. The first owner not who I got it from left rats in the cage when they fed that's why it's scared.

Wow, that poor baby. I would definately start slow. Small meals once a week. After several of those stay down, gradually start upping prey size, until you get her where she should be.

Is there any reasoning for everyone being so cautious...? Id be offering small rats every 5 days starting with today. The whole "you have to wait a week after bringing them home before you offer food" is a myth imo. As long as shes in a proper setup she'll feel secure and be fine. Sure, some still do refuse on the first day, none of mine ever have though. Maybe im just lucky, i doubt it.

EDIT: By small i mean id offer something the same thickness that she is in her fattest part.

When do you guys think I can breed her? She's my only adult eating right now. She hasn't missed a meal since I got it.

You know, going over this thread I personally wouldn't breed her anytime soon. She's looking better but not tip top and you don't want to let a female go through breeding when she's even on the teetering edge because the process of mating and producing eggs and laying just wears them out. I think you should give her a good year to fully recoup before you think about having her breed.

OK I think I will start breeding her in October. That was the original plan but she getting better so fast it got me thinking earlier.
