    Animal bites...Discuss!
By most accounts, ball python bites don't hurt. I haven't been bitten by mine yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time since everything that can bite me eventually does.

Help me prepare! What's the worst animal bite you've ever had?

For me : African Grey, hands down. He hates me.
Getting your finger stuck in the Swifter hole kind of sucks too. I know, that's not an animal, but it feels like a bite.

So...what am I looking at here? Way less painful than either of those?

Just about anything is worse than a bp bite. A cat scratch hurts more. The biggest part about a bp hitting you is the startle effect. A little blood may be drawn but it's more like a small scratch/scrape. :)

I'd rather a 100 BP bites than a single good dog bite. I was badly bitten by a dog when I was little, 16 stitches. I have been bitten by dogs since and they suck (real bites not nips) Cat bites are the next worst in my experience then small birds (parakeets, finches ect.) and last snake bites (BPs and a corn)

penguin bites stink! They grab and twist, the beginning of my training was easy to tell people to keep their hands out of the enclosure cause I just showed them my scars.. :)

As for pets, my tegu bites are a bit rough..
Been tagged by a corn and one of my balls, I could barely notice they bit me.

Getting bit in the a$$ from my cousins rot that hurts. Im not to scared of a snake bite. My three balls are real calm so it will be more of a shock then anything else. I hate fire ants omg got like 15 bites one time on my foot when i lived in florida. The worst part is when they start to itch id scratch my foot until it bled.

I got a good chunk taken out of my finger by a conure at work. I've been bit by my leopard gecko (didn't hurt, just scared me but he did draw blood)

I've never been bit by a hamster, but I'm nervous about picking them up at work because I know they can do some damage.

About 12 years ago I was wrapped by an adult female, my fault btw, and while scary for a second was in the end just a bunch of little holes in a half circle.

Now the Collie mix dog that chewed on my forearm as a young teenager gave me a proper bite. The worst, most traumatic anyway, was the neighborhood doberman that pinned and chomped the face when I was real little, like 4-6: too young to understand the implication of the phrase "police dog".

Give me a ball python bite any day.

I'm sure you will be bitten by your bp eventually. It happens. Ever owned a cat that has never scratched you? It scares you a touch and that's pretty much it. A bp probably will draw blood, but it's just like a paper cut. But less painful. Hamster and gerbil bites are way worse. And children. My little sister bit me in the butt once when she was about 2. Bad day, lol.

Fire ants suck. I got shoved into an ant hill playing tag once, and just by counting the scars that are still on my arms five years later, I was bitten over 30 times on each arm.
My cat bites me regularly, and it's never a big deal.
Birds in general don't like me. I've known several people with pet birds that have shown me how they'll stand on you if you hold your finger out to them, and every time that I've tried this, I've been bitten.
I had a feeding accident with a very large (2 1/2 foot shell diameter) tortoise, but he was cool and let go of my finger as soon as he realized that it wasn't food.
I think the worst bite that I've ever had was from a pit mix that was after my cat. I got between them because he could have killed my cat, and got bitten once or twice on the ear. That bled like crazy, and tore a couple of earrings out, but I was fine.
I've only ever been bitten by one snake, which was a hatchling rat snake. He was going to get run over (ran over?), and he kept biting me as I moved him off the bike trail. It was adorable.

I would honestly rather be bitten by every snake in my collection than get scratched by my stupid cat. I've gotten bites I've barely noticed and one that actually hurt. I think it really depends on where you get bit. Getting bit on the arm or fingers doesn't hurt but getting bit on the palm of your hand does hurt some (especially if it's a large female that does it). With snake bites it's more of the shock factor, afterwards there is a little blood and that's it. Their teeth are super sharp so it's like getting a shot. A little soap and water later and you usually can't even tell you've been bit.

Theyre also really fast! By the time i noticed them on me they were almost all the way up my legs biting me near my junk. Vinegar helps the swelling though. :gj:

    Oh goodness...where to start. I've been tagged by just about every species of animal normally kept in a pet store. I'll bold the more painful ones from my (crappy) memory;
Bp, RTB, childrens python, cornsnake, kingsnake, milksnake, iguana, beardie (baby), savannah, water monitor, tegu, nile, pacman, leo's, tokay, horned lizard, agama, (never been chomped by a tortoise or turtle), Oscar fish (youngin's), parakeet, conure, macaw, cockatoo, cockatiel, african gray, dog (small / large breed pups), kitten, cat, hamster, rat, gerbil, ferret, prairie dog, skunk, marmoset, fennec fox, guinea pig, pygmy opossum, sugar glider

I've probably forgotten a few, but you get the idea. Most of these were quick bites, so nothing too terrible. The Prairie dog...ugh. I was holding it to sex it, while a salesperson was talking to the customer. The entire time I'm holding this little PITA it's gnawing on the skin between by thumb and pointer. Generally you try not to scream in agony in front of customers, so I just stood there holding it while it chewed through my skin. I pipped up when the salesperson said "Oh, they don't bite! They're calm as can be!" restating that anything with a mouth can bite, and every new animal will need some working with, that some pd's can be bitey. Then I put it back in the cage, leaned over to the customer and told her maybe a skunk would be a better choice.

Also, marmosets are evil. Cute, adorable...but evil. *shakes fist* :P

All of the snakes we had were young ones, except the smaller species. We would get in adult corns / kings / milks / children's pythons every once in a while.

Edit: Being a Floridian, I can definitely agree that fire ants SUCK. Blarg. *shivers*

Honestly even my cat's play-bites hurt worse than any snake bite I've received (and I've been tagged by a 5' boa, jerk tagged me 3 times in the arm before I could get out of range), their teeth are so fine that it's definitely more shock than pain.

Does a sting count? A wasp sting hurt like hell!

A bird bite hurt a lot.. Stupid parrot..

I got bit by a baby water monitor which drew a lot of blood, stung for a while, but was much more tolerable than the parrot bite :P.

To my knowledge they are mainly found in the southeast region. Not sure if we have them worse than NC/SC, just that we definitely have them. Though it has been a while since I ran into a mound, not sure if that is the fire ants diminishing, or the fact I don't go gallivanting in the woods any more.

I have only been bitten once by a bp that actually hurt, but it was my fault. I was feeding a 2600g female and she missed the rat and got my hand. But the rest of the bites have been nippy babies, and very few times has it even drawn blood. Animals that suck more that a bp bite, just about anything you can think of; Tokays have a good bite, Jelly fish stings ( I know not a bite but still been stung twice not fun), cat bites, dog bites, bee stings, hermit crab pinches, and the list goes on and on.

Well, it sounds like the fire ants have it!
I forgot about how vile hamsters can be until it was brought up. I was bitten once on the tip of my finger and it swelled up and got all infected. Gross.
If I would have had a snake back then, that hamster would have gotten his!

I think my worst have been either rodent or cat bites. Rodents all terrify me. Birds can definitely hurt quite a bit, I won't get near anything bigger than a medium conure.

We've got fire ants down here in Phx. They suck. When I was little I once saw some like straight Nat. Geo stuff in my back yard. We had one of those blue plastic kiddie wading pools and I guess the fire ant colony decided to move to other side, there was like a giant any body raft/bridge thing, just hundreds and hundreds of dead ants stretching from one side almost halfway across and they were still building toward that side. The queen and a bunch of larva and eggs were on top. It was pretty cool to see but a bit retarded considering they could've just *walked* around. Stupid ants. My mom got the hose and drowned the rest.

Get the sticky/bristly side of a piece of velcro. Place it on your hand/arm/whatever. Thump it with your finger. You've now experienced a ball python bite, minus a bit of blood.

RODENT BITES! Oh my goodness rodent bites, I hate them. It's one of the biggest reasons I don't breed the suckers (other than smell). There are some pet rats I've met that I eventually got comfortable with, but as a general rule I just avoid anything with giant piercing teeth that don't stop growing. Hurts like a b**** and they almost always get infected. A friend of mine keeps rabbits and while I'll temporarily restrain/hold them while she cleans, I just can't stand having them for long because they'll do this test nibbling on things and it makes my hair stand on end.

Horses can give you a good nip too. We had a shetland pony who'd give you some teethmarks bruised into your butt while leading him around (usually during pony rides for kids, was a saint around them! I think it was his version of horseplay  ). Loved him though, cute little guy.

Yeah, it's startling to get a BP bite, but it's about as damaging as the velcro example above

I think so because everyone is talking about fire ants, which are stinging insects, just like their cousin the wasp.

For me, rat bites suck. Luckily properly socialized pet rats almost never bite and our feeders are handled a lot from birth, so they aren't very bitey. Out of the thousands of rats we've bred and fed off, neither of us have taken a bite out of aggression. I did however get bitten from an elderly pet rat when he had a seizure in my hands. That sucked. On that note, all rodent bites such. I couldn't tell you how many times I've been lit up by pet hamsters as a child. Evil little creatures!

Hookbills scare the crap out of me too. Even little parakeets pinch like crazy. I've had a few conures draw blood just playing around and I've seen what a macaw can do to a 2x4 in a matter of minutes. Nothing but respect there.

I've gotten a few nips from dogs as well. Never fun.

I'll take a bite from all our snakes before I'll take one from any of the above.

Rat bites can be brutal, if they actually bite you (not just nip). I stuck my hand in the middle of a (pet) rat quarrel and was bit as a result. Caused my finger to swell up 2 or 3 times its normal size and even turn colors, and hurt for days, maybe as long as a week. I think the nerve may have been nicked to cause that kind of pain, but that could be an exaggeration too.

Little birds can be surprisingly painful too. They can grab on and really pinch. I haven't had a bird actually draw blood, but both wild and pet birds really hurt. I've been bit by parakeets, lovebirds, blackbirds, finches, sparrows, cowbirds, and maybe a few others I am not remembering. Not a good feeling.

Mice can be pretty unpleasant too. I've been bit by both domestic and wild mice. A few times they've drawn blood. Painful each time, but so far have not been bit bad enough to hurt for days.

Cat scratches and bites are not fun either, and are prone to infection. Horse bites hurt too, depending on how bad they get you. The time I was bit wasn't too bad, just a bad scrape, but it still hurt quite a bit.

The time I was bit by my ball python was nothing compared to these.
