he's okay :). he'll probably brown out a lot and he has a fairly dirty pattern, but he's a pet I'm assuming.
congrats on the pick up!:gj:

Sorry, but quality wise not good at all, imo. Very brown, and very dirty. As long as you like him though, that's all that matters. :)

Congrats on the new snake.
I have to be honest that it's not the best looking pastel. He looks almost normal or yellowbelly. Pastels are suppose to be bright yellow. That snake is orange, which indicate it's going to brown out even more as an adult.
Definitely pet-only quality.

I like him! Especially the speckling.

X2, I like his little granite-like speckles/freckles (not saying he's a granite!)

Re: Pastel
Great pet, but it wouldnt be a good idea to breed him. Most likely he will have coloring similar to a normal when he grows up.

Re: Pastel
I've seen some very bright pastels throw some hatchlings that wasn't that bright. I also seen dirty looking pastels have some very nice looking hatchlings. you got the snake cause you liked it. best reason in picking a new snake. if you want to breed it, i say go for it. good luck with your new pickup, don

While this baby is deep orange colored and not the highly desired bright yellow that some pastel's carry, he has incredible blushing and flames. He's an extremely attractive snake in his own right, just not what most people look for in a pastel.
That being said, I think he has potential. I've seen a handful of pastels similar to him who really were stunning as they matured. Unfortunately, I've also seen a number of pastels like him who were ugly as sin when they matured.
Bottom line is of course whether YOU like him or not. If he makes you happy, then who gives a care what anyone else thinks?
Now, if you think maybe someday you'd like to get some babies from him, in my strong opinion you need a really stellar female for him. For example, let's say you decide you want to make Bumblebees. They are a highly popular morph and not hard to make. So when you shop for a female spider, she should be as clean and bright a gold as you can find, and have a lot of white up her sides, the more the better. Then, if your boy does mature like I suspect he might, the babies you get from such a pairing may just surprise you.
Now, if you wanted to make say, super pastels with him, I'd think twice about that. He is just not likely to produce the high yellow pastel offspring most people want even if you got a killer pastel female for him.
If I found myself in possession of this particular male for one reason or another, and breeding was in my plans for him. I would focus on genes that would negate his "flaws" as it were. For example, a super bright fire female bred to him might produce acceptable fireflys. Or a fantastically blushed mojave might make some decent Pastaves when bred to him. I would stay away from darker morphs, unless that were your ultimate goal. No Black Pastels, Cinnamons, Yellowbellys, Enchis, or the like. Unless you were aiming to produce really dark morphs, which some people seem to really like. I saw a dark orange and deep black Black Pastel and people were really impressed by it, so that just shows no two people seek the same thing in a morph all the time.

Re: Pastel
Thanks for the comments guys :)....at first there were 2 options that i sorted from 5 male pastels, the other one had much brighter yellow color than him....but his flames and blushing made me choose him instead.I am very very new in BP and have no idea how to pick a good pastel that will stay bright till adult.
Mine in real had better color contrast than in the picture.Just curious,is there any possibility that he will get brighter by age?coz I'm the light/bright color type. And another question does dirty means "dirty" in bad ways?at first i thought it was unique or something else coz i haven't seen that kind of "dirty" looking pattern in the pastels that stores sells here.

That snake will not get brighter with age. Rather he will "brown" out. The areas you see orange, will get darker. "Dirty" refers to all the speckling on him, which is not typical in a nice quality pastel. Congrats on your new baby, BTW.

Sorry for the bad light

The new one is an improvement color wise, but still a dark dirty pastel. It will brown out too. I honestly don't care for either one. :/
My pastel as a baby for comparison. And I don't even like her that much. Too much orange that has browned out with age. It's difficult to find quality pastels these days. My pastel het clown glows yellow, but I think its due to the clown gene.

Re: Pastel
wow even that kind of colored baby pastel of yours brown out much:O...stores in here will probably sell baby pastels similar as yours as a super pastel.I found a 600grams pastel in store today, color is quite yellow but browned out much at the upper side of the body being sold as a super pastel :confusd:.. i have searched for about 2 months and looked about 30-50 baby pastels and can't seem to find any good pastels these two were one of the best i can pick, both have best color contrast and blushing than the others..all of the baby pastels here are orange colored, rare blushing and flames, the rather bright colored one will be sold as super pastels and will cost a fortune :(

If I were you, I'd keep whichever you like the best (looks and temperament wise). I assume you aren't trying to create any high end morphs with a pastel male, rather just trying your hand at the breeding process and doing it for fun. Who cares if you don't have the best pastel in the world? Ball pythons should be fun! It's the animals that make it enjoyable, not the amount of speckling or yellow. I have some balls that I know aren't great quality-wise, but I got them because I personally think they are absolutely beautiful, even if they are different than the general standards. I'll breed them too, because they are my snakes and I love them, speckles and all ;)

I'm with satomi, I don't care for either one of them either. :(
