    T-Rexes are Like Ball Pythons
I was thinking about one of my favorite movies, Jurassic Park.

And then I realized that T-Rex husbandry is extremely similar to ball python husbandry. In particular, the feeding part.

They take a relatively harmless prey animal (goat) and leave it in the T-Rex enclosure. And then they wait. And wait. And wait. And...wait.

The T-Rex does not appear until later that night, in the middle of a storm. It had to think about it for a few hours, and then have complete darkness before it felt comfortable eating the goat.

Or was it the presence of its preferred prey animal, much like you can trick a ball python into eating a rat if it smells a mouse?

As you can tell from the below picture, the T-Rex has a much stronger feeding response toward the more expensive and harder to obtain prey animal, the human.

    Food for thought!

i doubt there was any goats back when dinosaurs existed,or cows that they fed to the raptors. t-rexes had to eat other dinosaurs i would guess.

I wish I could feed my BP's goats. It'd be so cool!

Don't we just love intelligent analogies. Love me some Jurassic Park! The next one comes out next year.

It's not really convincing, but this is something to look forward to I guess!

T-Rex actually loved triceratops necks! I read an article that talked about finding post mortem teeth marks in the shields on the heads and teeth marks in the neck bones, suggesting that T-Rex would bite the shield for leverage to rip the head off of the triceratops to get to the neck meat. To me, if they were worried about this meat and not the huge legs, it backs up the hypothesis that he was a scavenger, as well.

I think that rob zombie was supposed to be making a t-rex movie. Idk if he lost funding for it or decided to go a diff direction or something.

I'm still waiting for them to find a mosquito with blood in amber and recreate the dna. If they can do that, they should be able to tweak some genes too.

I want a mini T-Rex dangit! Like 5-6 lbs. I shall walk him on a leash and call him fluffy and he will be MY fluffy. And I will love him and squeeze him and get my ear bit off...bad fluffy.

Or imagine a leopard gecko sized raptor ...have like 4-5 in a viv and watch them pack hunt a mouse...that would be so neat!

Ok I'm done. Boredom brings out the worst in me I swear

Nope. They're more related to birds. Most of the therapods had feathers which suggests that they were warm blooded.

Definitely not. Reptiles are not descendants of dinosaurs. Alligators and snakes lived with dinosaurs.

It's a conspiracy. They didn't want something that most people consider pretty awesome related to "reptiles...ewwww" so they fudged some findings and now call them bird like. Lies lies lies! Something that badass can ONLY be reptilian. I mean come now...a t-rex wouldn't be nearly as menacing covered in feathers. It would be like ha...look at that giant chicken! *roar face* ok...giant chicken with teeth ...*runs*

Seriously though...those finding made me angry face. I want reptilian dinos...not chickens with teeth :'(

I felt similarly disheartened when I heard Pluto was not a planet. Poor Pluto ...

I feel like I'm an adult ruining Christmas for my kids, but my dreams of having a mini T-Rex were also crushed by this article. :(

I haven't seen guard geese, but as someone who was chased by a mother duck across a field, I can say that it is terrifying! :O

*puts hands over ears/eyes* NO! No no no no no!

I will have a mini T-rex and pack of raptors one day!

Ok...if we can't have mini dino's, could we at *least* discover a new species somewhere that looks like / acts like them only in miniature? Preferably from somewhere that doesn't mind exporting :please::rolleyes::D

I'm still holding out hope that we'll discover an island like in the King Kong movie full of dinosaurs and a giant ape... all hope is not lost! :gj:

No, and I wasn't even watching it. I was just thinking about it because I think about things like dinosaurs fairly often. I don't have to be high to have a weird brain. :)

What about the frilled basilisk lizard?? The males look so much like dinosaurs that I immediately fell in love with them the first time I saw them..
