    Not really fish
But I get to pick up my two little baby axototls tonight! They're nothing fancy, (wild type) but I'm adopting them from the reptile rescue!

I am beyond excited. I'm starting to cycle their bigger tank to be ready for them when they get bigger.

If I can look after these guys with no issue, I'll be picking up a leicystic! :)

What are their care requirements in relation to those of a tropical fish? Can't wait to see pictures!

Axies are awesome as they don't need a heater. They need to be kept in room temperature or LOWER water.

I'm really hoping I can keep them alive :( I've never done fish/etc before.

They're gonna stay in a small tank till I can get the bigger one ready and cycled.

Here's some pics, they're really tiny!

Do they come up off of the bottom much or do they just eat off of the bottom. They look like predators - do they ever eat guppies or any other feeder fish?

They'll come up but they seem to like the bottom.

They WILL eat other fish so they have to be alone. Plus other fish will nip at their gills and whatnot

Very cute, I love axies. If you know enough to cycle the water than you shouldn't have much trouble taking care of them! You sound like you've done your homework :D If you don't have one already, drop by a good aquarium/tropical fish shop and pick up one of the big water testing kits, the type with the liquid chemicals, not the little test strips. They last forever and they're a very accurate (and still fast) way to keep an eye on your water quality.

Axolotls are awesome little amphibians! So cute! They're prone to eating anything they can suck into their big mouths, so make sure not to use any small rocks, pebbles, or gravel in their enclosure. I've seen pictures of one that ate a piece of plastic plant in the tank and had it eventually work its way THROUGH the poor creature's body (not eliminated through the normal digestive track). So be careful!

I love seeing more amphibian action at BP.net! :gj:

They're on sand. I found another forum for these guys on tapatalk and saw MANY horror stories.

One persons axolotl actually ingested 3 pebbles! And her vet did surgery and removed them :o

I LOVE axolotls! I've always always wanted some but its so warm in AZ I'd be worried their water would get too warm. They make me think of that one Facebook game, Happy Aquarium.
