Ok, so maybe this is a silly question, however I will ask anyways and your feedback would be awesome. I have an oprtunity to purchase a 2011 piebald for 200 dollars, I would be a first time owner of a BP. This animal is also a high white and from what I understand is typically more expensive to begin with. I asked a lot of question as I was very skeptical that here may be health issues or aggression issues with this snake. Q- any mites A- no
Q- ever bitten or strike at anyone A- no
Q- eating on a regular basis and not under weight A- eating great and not under weight.

The only thing that I think would be a bit of an issue is he said the snake normally keeps to itself, however when held "doesn't mind being held"

Any thoughts would help, any addition questions I should be asking? Does this seem too good to be true?

    Thank you,

I would watch out. Seems like a scam to me:( Ask for a picture and post the animal. BP.net might be able to find the breeder the photo belongs too.

Certainly seems too good to be true, but stranger things have happened. Is this a local deal or something that involves shipping?

    Do you have any pictures?

Seems kinda low for a high white pied. They are typically 700-1000 depending on the breeder a d location. Is this person locally as to where you c a meet them a d the snake. Do they have pictures of the snake. I wouldn't send any money to them if they can not provide pictures and if they are not a well known breeder. I paid 400 for my pied at a repticon show. I was told that it did have the spider like trait with the head wobble. However the snake was a good size healthy wieght and was also in shed when I bought him. He has ate for me unfortanlly only live. So if it was me buying the snake I would ask more questions and pictures of the snake.

A pied for $200 sounds a little too good to be true IMO. As the previous poster said, try to get a pic of the animal and post it here. I have witnessed a few threads where someone was posting an animal for sale on Craigslist or otherwise, only to find out they were scamming using a stolen image of a breeder who posts on this forum.

Best case scenario, you stumbled on a heck of a deal...

Also try running the name/business name of the guy selling the snake through the search feature on the BOI

It's just someone who has several bp's and had a bad break up with his gf and wants to sell off his stock. He is an hour from me and I asked if I could come view the snake and handle it, his reply was "sure" he also sent me pictures, I'm just not sure how to post them here..lol newbie.... The snake looks amazing! In addition, he said for an additional $ 200 I could have his 80 gal tank with all the accesories..

I guess the snake has not been handled too much as of late as he has not had much time, but I figure a little work and it should all be good.

So with that being said, I guess I should not hesitate on his deal?.

If you can actually go view the snake, and do the exchange in person certainly. If they try anything that seems strange just walk away:

    How to post pictures: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...with-pictures)

I would skip the 80 gallon tank, that isn't even close to being appropriate for a Ball Python.

What size tank would be best?

Depends on the size of the snake, but the absolute largest I would go is a 55 gallon (though I wouldn't ever use a glass tank any way. PVC reptile cages or tubs are a much better choice)

If you could go look at it i would pick it up in a heart beat. The 2 things i could only think of is it might be a newly hatched pied that has not eaten yet, in which case i would possible turn it down. Or it is his girlfriends snakes and he is selling them because of the bad break up, which could lead to legal issues. Go check it out, and tell us how you made out.
If you live near NY, and dont want it let me know ill go get it lol:gj:

I figured that the 80 gallon tank was too large, I think I will just go buy a smaller one maybe a 33 gallon or something that will work for at least 8 months or so..

Buy a tub:gj: Cheap and much easier to heat/humidity easier to maintain.

I asked for some addition pictures as he looks to be a bit on he skinny side, the guy selling him also said he is still fairly small. I'm thinking the care may not be too good, or he just hasn't been feeding him properly. I want to be sure all is good before I make the 3 hour round trip.

I will post pictures when I get a couple more in a few hours. That way I can get a few opinions on how he looks.

    Sounds good.

My guess is that they aren't eating well do the to massive cage size.

Yes, I will reduce he cage size immediately and slowly up the size of the food. It may be a bit of work to get him where he needs to be, but I think it will be worth it for a couple hundred dollars.

I may just buy his lights and leave the rest behind... I will know better when I get there and see where and what he has been living in, hope no mites or anything... Mind you, if he did have mites being almost all white I'm sure they would be easy to spot.

When I see him in person what should I be looking for?

X2. For that price I would be suspicious. Maybe its not eating good, maybe it has parasites?? Definately post up some pictures so we can see him.

I got my 2011 med white Pied girl for $250 so the deals are out there. As for weight my girl is a late 2011 and weights in at 1100G so its seems a little small but if they are feeding hoppers that makes sense. I would make sue to do this type of deal in person and visually inspect the snake before buying. If the snake is in good shape go for it get a fecal done and QT for 6mo.

    Re: Piebald
I should mention that originally his price was $600 and given the fact that he lives a couple hours from the city may be the reason he has lowered his price, I don't know. I guess it's good to be skeptical anyways..

I will be looking him over extremely well, if I see anything I don't like I just walk away and chalk it up to a learning experience and a nice loooong drive... Lol

I could really use some guidance on what the main things are I should be looking for.

    Thank you,

Looks like a nice high white pied. The pics are kinda small, so the only thing I can say is that it might be a slight bit thin, but I'd be all over that deal if it were me...

    Re: Piebald

I'm guessing given the size that he is a 2012 hatchling and not a 2011.... He looks to be in not bad shape..

    Re: Piebald
He is a nice looking pied worth the $200 and he is way to small to be a 2011:) Looks a little thin but not terrible I would get him on rats asap and feed every 5 days 10-15% body weight :)

    Edit
And next year send him to me on a breeding loan he and my pied girl would make some great babies

He looks pretty! Size not terrible for a 2012. You could always ask for a picture of the whole snake at once to see his condition. But he's probably just fine, for that price you can fattened him up! Looks like a good deal. :). Just make sure you quarantine him when you get him.

    Don
From what you can see in the pictures he looks pretty good. Is there a reason the seller doesn't show a picture of the entire snake. With the price that low, I'd ask for a few more photos that show the entire animal. When a deal sounds too good to be true, many times it is. Be careful, skeptical and cautious. Good luck!
