Why are people so SENSITIVE on this forum?
If you don't like what us NOOBS ask...why come in with slick comments and when we decide to address it, we either get a warning, get rep points deducted, or the forum vets come in WITH NEGATIVE FEED BACK? Is the internet that serious? I like the forum, but this is not the only helpful forum out there. Let us New people ask questions without all that nasty feed back and slick comments. We aren't vets like you when it comes to snakes. Get out of the house and breath people. Thanks

and i'm sure...i will get a warning or something slick...let's sit back and wait. :rage:
-
First, people are passionate and showing a lack of compassion or insensitivity towards others or animals (even feeders) can be viewed as giving fodder to the anti-reptile groups. Second, most new people take some time to get to know the forum and who the people are. Yes, there are some who jump in but most people new to any forum usually read enough posts to learn what is acceptable and what is not acceptable on a forum. Perhaps you jumped in and were a little insensitive and started with your own negative feedback before learning the best way to use that function?
I don't know anyone here who would not help if they knew the answer to a question. Respect (and positive feedback) comes from showing respect and treating this place like you are a guest. After all, we are all guests in the forum owner's house. I would not walk into someone's home and make a comment like you just posted. Maybe you could rethink how you approach this place instead of insisting that "vets" change to suit your needs.

what?? I was rude? I mean the truth does hurt. So I understand.

It's the internet. Most people ARE jerks and socially conform in other situations. We come here to tell it how it is.

I have heard of and been part of online communities that are MUCH less cuddly-care-bear.
I'm not saying people are justified in being jerks on the internet. Just stating what I have observed.

Re: Why are people so SENSITIVE on this forum?
Well, if you are speaking in regards to your previous thread about watching snakes feed on live prey then you should realize why people reacted the way they did. I beg to differ, this is one of the best forums that I have ever belonged to. You can't just come on here and tell people to go away, especially not the respected veterans that have earned respect from being so helpful in this community.
Perhaps you need to rethink some of the things that you have said previously. Like was stated, we are all passionate about these animals and sometimes things get blown out of context.

what is there to rethink? I came in and asked questions, isn't that what the site is about?

I think the issue is that it's hard to read a persons intent via text. For example, when you said "Scram!" to iCandi, I took it as a playful banter because of his youtube comment (similar to "Oh, stop it you! haha!"). Others felt it was less playful, and more a real comment telling him to get off your topic, IE (Seriously. Stop it. Go away.) etc. How was it meant to be taken? Only you can answer that.
When I joined, I asked a question that had been asked probably a thousand times. I didn't use the search feature, and someone commented "Try using the search feature, it works wonders" Now, that to me is similar to iCandi's youtube response. It is a bit..what's the phrase...snub nosed...or a slight bit condescending. Now, I don't believe that most of the people that make these comments are usually that way, some of them probably just tire of answering the same questions over and over, or assume the worst when people ask to see feeding videos in your case (Assuming the worst being, you enjoy watching the rodents suffer, which I know you stated you do not, and it was just fascinating)
So much is lost in the age of text to text communication. Implying meaning, suggestive context or enunciation of a word or phrase etc.. I also believe that people lose the sense of speaking with another human when it's via the internet or text. It doesn't seem like you're actually talking to another person behind that monitor, and most people are more likely to insert little comments in text that are a bit brasher, than they would be to say it out loud in a face to face conversation. (Like you adding in that little snippet of "Get out of the house and breath people. Thanks" That's a jab, and you see it all day long on forums, this one not excluded. Those are the little comments that you think in your head when someone tick's you off in person, or you're having a bad day, but you wouldn't actually say it out loud to the person. Common courtesy is lost on the internet sadly.
Just as a heads up, and I'm not trying to be all knowing or anything like that, so please don't take it like that. This is all just my opinion, but this is probably the nicest forum I've found. I've been on quite a few others, and I was down right scared to ask newbie questions when I saw them lacing into people on other threads. Anyways, yes, it sucks that you got neg rep / infractions / PO'd or On or whatever..but it's not the end of the world. It's just a reputation on a forum, and it doesn't mean everyone is going to shun you now. Try not to get too worked up over it, it's not worth it. Take it with a grain of salt, and move on. And next time you want to make a brash comment, or a funny sarcastic remark, think and reread your comment and make sure it is going to be taken the way you want it to. (As in, I'm POd and I want to make a brash comment! Or, haha sarcasm, let me use italics, or a little smiley, or whatever, so people realize I'm just kidding!).
Side note...I ramble too much. Sorry :(

I plain just don't like anyone whose name starts with M and ends with rBrute...
Also, don't be a baby! Posting a thread about everyone being so sensitive because of how you were mistreated in your thread(s) or whatever is a gigantic steaming pile of irony... or hypocrisy? Skittles… Poop... 0_0
Maybe you should take your infractions less seriously mr SENSITIVE. Need a tissue? Want a lolly?
Uhhh, what else can I try and instigate you with... YOU HAVE INFERIOR REPTILE HUSBANDRY SKILLS THAT I KNOW NOTHING OF BUT CHOOSE TO COMMENT ON ANYWAYS IN ORDER TO GET A RISE OUT OF YOU BECAUSE I HAVE FUN DOING SO LIKE TYPING GIANT RUN ON SENTENCES AND SUCH YEAH TAKE THAT...
I have spent most of my day today commenting on threads with much less than serious responses... cause guess what... I dun care who r sensitive... :gj:

It seems from most of your posts/threads that you are just looking for an argument.

point me to a thread and prove your case. Why would i join a snake forum to argue with snake lovers? If that was the case, i would just troll fb all day. So I'll wait and let you show me where i'm trying to argue with people.

Perhaps you shouldn't come on and start giving negative rep to everyone you don't agree with. That's not how that works. That's just you being sensitive and getting mad that things aren't going your way.
Also, you telling people not to post if they don't like what you post. Last time I checked this was a free country, and opinions are like, well, you know, everyone has one. AND anyone is entitled to post it here on this very great, friendly, and helpful forum!

Well, to give you a serious answer I think this forum has grown to large to be concerned about niceties and worrying about the reputation establishment. They are established, they have a good reputation, and one guy who doesn't like the way he was reacted (yes, there was no proactive attack on you! They reacted to you!) to isn't going to hurt the forum or anyone on it.
Kind of like a big corporation, eventually you're so large that you can't worry about the middle management guys and still do good work.

Try learning how to use capital letters properly and how the search function works. Also just because youre an annoying 12 y/o, doesnt mean you have to present yourself as an annoying 12 y/o to everyone here.
Im not even trying to be mean, those are just some suggestions for you bud.

Indeed. It really has made such an impact on the "Social networking" generation. I've noticed quite a difference in kids in the past 10 years, going from normal brattyness, to "Did that kid just say what now?!" More so than before.
I try and type as I would talk to someone..Maybe that makes me long winded and annoying, if so, oh well. It makes me believe that my intention will not get misrepresented. That is important to me, as explaining what you meant after the fact is a bit harder than getting it right the first time. Tempers are already flared etc..
This is also why it thoroughly irritates the crap out of me when people "tlk liek diz on teh interwebz u nw wt i mn?" That was actually a bit painful to type...anyways, you get my drift. When people present themselves via text, my brain makes it out like they are speak like that. In which case, said person sounds like they have a brain retardation, I'll make sure I speak slowly and with small words so we can communicate effectively. (This is not directed at anyone, just my pet peeves and me rambling again :) )
Annyways... TJ..I want a lolly! I can haz one? (See, it's funny there..because I would have actually said it that way..so HA :P )

If this is a serious thread then it sounds to me like you are one that's being a little over sensitive.
If you are looking for info on this site you are going to find it. This site is full of very intelligent, experienced and helpful Ball Python keepers that contribute.
If you present your questions and comments in a well thought out, respectful way then you are typically going to get well thought out, respectful answers. If you choose not to present your questions and comments that way then that's fine, just don't be surprised or insulted with the responses you get.

In the short time you have been here, you have pushed a few buttons. Creating thread after thread about things that have been discussed at length. Use the search function. Spend a little bit of time thinking about your questions before you post a new thread. Try to put a few questions into one thread so that we don't have to bounce all over the place to answer your questions.
I think the caps lock also bothers some people. To me, it seems like you are just looking for attention.
I don't believe you are a bad person or anything, perhaps just immature and bored.
Are you seriously 12? If so, that would explain a lot. That being said, I've met 12 year olds on the forum with a much higher maturity level :P
-
There are many factors attributed to this.
1. It's the Internet
2. Because it is text only with a limited amount of smilies it shard to see the real meaning behind te stately. 97% of what humans try to communicate is via body language, and the lack of body language and hearing the tone of voice makes it hard to discern if someone is joking or serious.
3. The new people don't bother reading the stickies and the care sheets provided by the forum which makes it frustrating for everyone. 80%+ of the questions can be answered by reading the stickies, care sheets and using the search function. Hell you can google it and find the answer but some people just IMMEDIATLY start asking questions without research.
4. Some people just ask the same question and when they don't get an answer or get an answer they don't like they keep posting it over and over.
5. It's the Internet
6. Did I mention it was the Internet?
7. Proper grammar. People should have the decency to properly capitalize their sentences with reasonable punctuation. TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS VERY ANNOYING and typing liek dis maks it vry herd to undrstnd and Pplz dont want 2 halp u.
8. People have to read the forums a bit before posting to get the flow of the forum. You have to learn what is acceptable, unacceptable and just plain distasteful. I'm sure productive debates is welcome but when people go around saying "LOL FEEDING LIVE IZ AWESOME CUZ I LIEK WATCHING IT FOR FUN EVERYONE LETS GET PIKTURZ AND VIDS ABT IT. FEEDING F/T IS FOR SCAREDY CAT NOOBS" No one is going to like that.
9. Bringing up controversial things that just pisses people off that have no point in discussing ex: what's better racks or aquariums? Or live vs f/t.

Oh! Yes, Steffe hit a nail on the head there!
The way your forum titles are, and the sheer volume of them, reminded me of a 5 year old bouncing up and down asking 30 questions a minute. I'm not saying you ARE a 5 year old, it's just the way my head wrapped around it. I gave it a chuckle and kept on truckin', I have a 3 & 6 year old, so it doesn't irritate me that much, but I did notice it.
I also took it as endearing in some way, as I get overly excited when learning as well. (Ask TJ on that one. I ramble on like a child haha) I'm sure it was more excitement than anything else, but it can be misconstrued as immaturity.

I'll preface this with a strong warning that the material I'm linking is intensely NSFW (Not safe for work) and contains cursing, please follow the link at your own will.

Now, even if I get an infraction, content explicitly relative.

I too have question sometimes I wonder why people can face the consequences of their actions or the words they are using :confusd:
Rudeness and name calling seems to be your thing, don't be surprised because people do not agree with it and show their disapproval. In other words you reap what you sow.
Now
Rep point are YOU being judged by your peers.
Getting an infraction: This is YOU violating OUR TOS in your case it was because of your language and it was a ZERO point warning to remind you of OUR rules and not an infraction. Don't break the rules and you will not get any infraction.
-
Communication skills, they'll help you immensely.
You've created numerous topics with little to them other than a single question. Not a problem in and of itself, but I'm going to 2nd the statement that it makes you come across as someone very young, and very bored. RANDOM caps lock USAGE in your TOPICS also just makes it seem like you're shouting, and with responses like "lol" "cool" "lmao" "pics?" etc and very little else, it just seems like you don't give a crap about what you're asking or the answers you're being given.
This is my interpretation of how you've presented yourself since you've started using the website. You don't seem like a bad person/troll or anything, but if you want people to take you as more than a bored young person with no vested interest, maybe try and fill out your responses more, read a bit, and share more than a sentence as to what's going on in that cranium thing (Steffe and Tiffany are voices of reason in this thread, and phrased it better, but I took a stab at it)
Best of luck

Shrouded in Mystery as always. Rumors are all I've heard, chilling thrilling rumors. I suppose you'll continue to play coy, tease unmercifully those whose curiousity runs towards insatiability, and, eventually, amaze and astound those few lucky enough to actually witness you and your ineffable skills.
It's no wonder there's always a line to get in when you're on the Bill.

How did you expect this thread to go over?
Everyone on here is an individual, and if your feelings were hurt because someone gave you a hard time, than I feel sad for you son. I have 4 infractions on this site, and have had my share of confrontations with other members. I don't generalize the whole site because I have had some issues. If you start stupid threads, your gonna have a bad time.
