    Axanthic Question
So i dont understand the axanthic gene very well. But from what it seems i see a lot more VPI Axanthics than any other. I know the the recessive gene doesnt work combined with different lines. But i was just wondering if there is a reason people work with VPI more than the other three?

People like to work with VPI lines because that line of axanthic tends to retain it's silvery color the best. Other lines generally brown out more as adults.

I started working with the VPI Axanthic gene for the reason listed above. I've also noticed from talking to friends that work with other lines that my VPI Axanthic gene carriers tend to eat better and grow quicker than my friends that work with the other lines. My VPI Axanthic girl that was born in 2010 is well over 2000 grams and most of my Hets have been over 1500 grams in 18 months or so. These results may not be typical as mine could have something else going on, but I have brought in Hets from 4 different breeders and all of them and their offspring have rarely missed a feeding even in breeding season.

This is great to hear, as in 6 weeks I'll finally be getting my male VPI and female het VPI. I'd love to see them both really take off once they've settled in for me. And yes, I think that people buy more of them because they brown out less, or at least I bough mine becuase I'd heard that.

VPI all the way. I wish my het red het VPI was a monster. Though I did get him to 800 grams in 8 months he's slowed down tramendously. Here's his mom at 5pounds:)

That Het Red, het Ax. is awesome. Has anyone actually hatched the Axanthic Het Red Axanthic yet? I know at least one other person was working on it for this season I thought. I picked the VPI line to work with because there were a lot more of them out there and the common theme seemed to be they held color better.

JD Constrictors has done some very cool stuff with the SK line and the colors on his stuff looks great in pics.

I think people tend to work with vpi because there are more of them available, which of course produces more vpi's to work with and perpetuates the situation.

Sorry for piggy backing, but I have been looking at the vpi line and seems like people hold on to their female axanthics but I see some het females, I was hoping to pair one up to my albino male..so my question, is it worth holding out to find a straight up female or get a male and het female and hope I come up with a axanthic female? This is a long term plan i'm trying to not get crazy in it, but then again you all know how this goes...

I bought my female axanthic het albino at an expo, there were at least 5 others. I don't think they're that uncommon, check out kingsnake.com.

Though very late and old, from what I know I have the only HRA het VPI Axanthic unless some1 wants to share. My male has began to eat like a beast and I plan to pair him to his mom soon. 2013 I should have a Het Red Axanthic VPI Axanthic of things go as planned:please:
