    EXTREME server lag issues
The past couple of weeks. So bad, it took me around 10 minutes just to get this post through. The site has become virtually unusable. I don't know whether it is a constant or intermittent problem.

    Have you guys considered Cloudflare?

You sure it's not on your end? I've not personally seen any lag at home, from work or on my phone.

Not one of the tech team, but did Google Cloud flare. This isn't very encouraging... http://amix.dk/blog/post/19627

I don't have any issues with this site? Home, work or phone.

I have been having trouble with the site recently. Very slow loads and sometimes it won't load at all.

Are you having trouble with the site loading slowly all of the time, or only at certain times? I myself am not having any issues, so it's hard for me to diagnose.

Every time I have been by, lately, including this time. Frequent time-outs. No other site I've been to is giving me issues, just this one.

Cloudflare did speed our sites up, and also allows the site to load when the server's down (which is mostly great if you have a static store site rather than an interactive site).

It looks like only some users are having issues here, which is strange.

(Oddly, posting this message happened fast, so the issue is intermittent). ...editing the message to say so, that timed out, lol.

Same problem as some of the other people chiming in. This site has been lagging a lot lately. Right now, there's no problem and everything's loading in a snap, but frequently I run into BP.net timing out or taking forever to load... usually a lot of timing out.

Depending on the computer I use either Firefox or Chrome. I've had extreme loading issues before, but can't recall any recent incidents, had assumed it was on my end

I use Firefox, and my ISP is Charter.

Still experiencing heavy lag and timeouts as of right now, and the site is essentially unusable as a result. No other sites have loading issues.

We have set up server monitoring and are trying to pinpoint the issue. It's difficult since it's only happening to certain people and not everyone, but we are working on it.

If it helps any I -just- had a time out/internal server error happen, but the site loaded fine after I left it alone for a while (got frustrated and watched a couple episodes of a show with the boyfriend  ) Exact text is:

    "Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@ball-pythons.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

    Using chrome on this machine

Still lagging. Took me 10 minutes to get to this page. For me, the lag seems to be pretty much continuous now. The front page of the site loads fine, and quickly--everything after that lags and times out, sometimes even more than once.

What exact error message are you getting? Can you post it here?

What Valentine described seems to be what I'm getting as well. A very long loading pause, then the time-out error. When I reload, most of the time it eventually loads, but occasionally I get a second time-out. It has rendered the site unusable for me.

Can you try using another browser like firefox or IE?

And if you give me the specific version of chrome you are using I can try and rplicate it here.

Tried both Firefox and IE. I get these repeatedly, virtually every time I try to load a page.

Here's the Firefox error message. As you can see, it's just a simple time-out.

    The connection has timed out

The server at ball-pythons.net is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I also have an Internet Explorer message, here--same thing:

    The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

    It's really wierd,

    I can't replicate it at all. :(

Have you asked your ISP if they are blocking it or anything?

The only other thing I can suggest is to try a third party DNS server ( like public DNS ).

You can double check it isn't a widespread error using a site such as Is-it-down to make sure it should be reachable.

I'm having same problems - most of the times I get time out when loading any page here :(.

    Okay, narrowing down this issue.

I'm now using a laptop on my home network, and there IS NO LAG. That's right, the lag only occurs on my desktop machine, on the same network.
I'm still using Firefox, still using Win XP.

It MIGHT be a problem with some sort of plug-in? Perhaps one of the plug-in updates is not playing well with something on the site? That would explain why others are having this problem, but with no pattern to it.

Is anyone that is experiencing the lag logging into the site via Facebook?
  • 12-19-2012, 04:08 PM

Nope, I never log in via Facebook. I can confirm, only my desktop is lagging out on the site, and it is worst when I am logged in.

On the laptop, there's no lag at all. However, when I logged in, I did get an 'invalid redirect' message, so might want to check that.

We know about the redirect thing - it's seen with firefox quite a bit - but if you navigate to another page you should be signed in fine.

I'd try removing adobe flashplayer with the uninstaller on their site and then reinstalling the latest version.

This is just in case it is one of the adverts or something.
