Your occupation/future occupation!
So I was wondering what everyone here does or plan on doing for a living! Hoping to see something interesting!
As for me, I'm either planning to get my Bachelors in biology or zoology, then continue to get my Ph.D in zoology with emphasis in herpetology. Let's see how that works out for me, eh? Haha.
-
Lol, same as you, pretty much:please:
-
PhD in clinical psychology with a focus on PTSD and neuropsychology.
-
Going into pre med then to med school. My herper mom is a lawyer(;
-
Full time auto technician (mechanic). Same shop for over 13 years.
-
I'm in school for electrical engineering with a minor in inteligent robotic systems. I currently work for a complany as a level 1 electrical engineer working with laser optics systems. Someday I hope to start my own company in the household automation/robotics industry.
-
CNA right now looking for a full time paid EMT right now, I also volunteer at the county rescues squad (EMT) but I just started doing that less then a month ago so still in the probabtion period there. And I just got my acceptance letter to the fire fighter school so January ill be starting there and in two year ill be looking for a fire job 😄
-
I'm in my second year towards getting a bachelor's in bio, and then after that I'm hoping to get at least a master's in zoology (or herpetology if I can find a program) if not a PhD.
My back up plan is to be a starving musician.

I head off the electronics department at the factory I work at. I am also their second in line machinist. I hold my aws welding certificate, 3yrs auto mechanic school. I'm certified for confined space work, and have my arc flash electrical safety training. I'm certified to work with 14,700 volts ac and below. I'm the project coordinator for machine vision and automation, and also design the systems. I deal with distributor relationships, and get to attend most automation and packaging expos and fairs. I will be enrolling back into school come spring for software development, and hopefully electrical engineering.
Not too shabby for be 23 with no degree lol. I've worked with the systems encountered since I was 18, and worked under some amazing teachers.
The more I get involved with herps, the more I want to design control systems that make out days easier. Networked room diagnostic, with thermal sensors ( or cameras) that relay the current conditions to your smartphone or computer. Just an idea that I'm currently working to design.
I also volunteer for my local fire department and hold many certificates for related fields. Dive license, hazmat, rapid intervention team, repelling, pump operator, and driving cert.
-
I'm working towards a bachelors degree in Marine & Freshwater Biology. After that I'm hoping to either A) get a masters and go work with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans species-at-risk lab (where I work in the summers and love) OR B) go for a masters and phd and (hopefully) get a job at a university that lets me pursue my own research.

Working on bachelors (pt) for psychology, will continue on for masters. The original goal was to work with military families (so I can smack sense into obnoxious wives) or police families.. However since becoming a zoo keeper i'm pretty content living my childhood dream.

Like the ATM machines? Cool!
After this semesters over ill have all my gen eds outta the way. Still not sure what i wanna do in life though so i may take some time off from school before i choose a major to apply those credits to. :P
-
I'll be starting my associates in nursing the spring I hope with the possibility of going on to get my bachelors in nursing. There is also a thought of furthering to a nurse practitioner or a physicians assistant. The hospital I work at now will pay for all my schooling if I become a PA. I just have to donate the years I did at school to them after I graduate.
-
Welllll.... My boyfriend and I currently just breed crested geckos, but we're going to start breeding gargoyle geckos, as well, next year...
But when we are not doing that... I work in an Elementary School, cooking and feeding all the little kiddos in the Cafeteria :)
And, my boyfriend works at a Toyota dealership... He's also in school for IT.
We also have a 5 year old daughter who's in Kindergarten :)
-
I'm am currently an application developer for JPMorgan. I hope that with more experience I can work on software for high volume trading or maybe bond volatility. And then when I'm old, I'll maybe open a fish/reptile shop. THEN when I'm a grandma I''ll open up a bakery :D. Yep there's my life plan right here. Haha!
-
Veterinary assistant... and will hopefully change that to DVM in quite a few years!

Cause we all know that a good number of them need it from time to time!!
Bachelor's in Ecology and Evolutionary Bio, working on a Master's in Rangeland Ecosystem Science with a certificate in Sustainable Military Land Management (mouthful, right?). As of right now I am a 1LT on Active Duty in the U.S. Army and am in Afghanistan for about 6 more weeks. After the Army, whethere or not I retire, I will likley get a job with a state wildlife department or the national parks. Only time will tell.
-
Re: Your occupation/future occupation!
Staff Midwife at the county hospital for the last 11 years. What the future holds, who knows?
-
I got my Bachelor's in Biology. Now I do investment research for a financial services company.
It's funny to hear the futures of people who are still in school. I thought for sure I'd be ziplining through the Amazon rainforest collecting new species samples and making medicine from them by now. Funny how things work out...
There's also a disconnect between what you're passionate about and what you'd like to do for a career. Sure, I could get a job that's biology related, but I'd probably end up in a lab shooting chemicals into test tubes over and over again. I used to think I'd like the idea of working at a zoo or something. Guess what you do all day at that job? Deal with the public (largely idiots) and clean up poop and walk around on your feet all day. I'll pass on that, I clean enough poop for leisure at home.
/endcynicalrant
Ray of hope! I'm not saying it's impossible to get a job doing something that actively entertains you and brings you joy, but this is more the exception than the rule from what I have gathered thus far in my adult life.
-
Currently a stay at home mom but have my CNA and medical transcription certificate. I'm a full time RN student so in 2014 I will be a nurse. I have had MANY thoughts of dropping out and going to zoology or something with animals because I would much rather work with them then people but I'm he type that can't leave something undone so I feel I have to finish nursing school. I don't know though, I just started so changing my major is still an option... I wish I could decide what I want to be when I grow up like everyone else seems to be able to do!!
-
I went to school for music ed. but that didn't work out too well for me, so for now I'm an asst. manager for a pizza company. I was managing my own store but stepped down as I had no time with my son. Now, hopefully this spring I can get back into school working for my vet tech then eventually maybe be a vet.
-
I have a bachelor's in software engineering and I am currently working as a software consultant, which means slightly better pay but zero benefits. :(

Awesome, Chris! Good luck getting that done, and if you do get a clinic somewhere let me know - I'll make a special trip to bring my animals to you!

I'm just waiting to go into the Army Nov. 20th. Going to be a 68W. I only plan on being in there for 4 years. Then when I get out I want to be a Police Officer. Open up my own Firearms business, and then from there who knows.

No worries, college is an intitutionalized moratorium and you have plenty of time to find something you like, you may even like working with human animals during the day and others in the afternoon, who knows? Best of luck though!
-
I'm in process of getting my pharm.D! Although biology was my main focus.
-
I have my bachelors in biomedical engineering and in a few months I'll have my masters in biological engineering. I can smell the freedom!
-
Former Army print and photojournalist (6 years), now security and going through the hiring process for a police department. Future goals are to invent something better than toilet paper and spend my vast fortune the rest of my days.

Heck yeah that's what I do, and after making decent money in payroll and a bank I wouldn't trade scooping poop for anything right now. My dream was this and while it sometimes sucks listening to a mom tell their child a elephant is a hippo, wading in poop, and working through hurricanes, cuddling tapirs, bottle feeding orangutans, and doing the education programs to teach kids is so worth it! ;)

Did you have to go to school to work at a zoo? I know that some positions of course but do all of the positions require schooling? I want to do something with animals but I'm afraid there wont be enough demand and will be hard to find a decent paying job!
-
My main goal and passion is to become a professor of Archaeology.
However, along with my applications to grad school, I'll also be applying to teachers college. If I go down that road I want to reach high school (my two teachables are geography and anthropology).
Well see what happens! Either way ill be ending up teaching.

Does this have to do with your trip to the middle east cat? I remember u said u were going there, i didnt know you were so into the archaeology though. That was probably a really cool place to visit if your that into that kinna stuff. :gj:

I have a BSN and MSN (Nursing) and am certified as a critical care clinical nurse specialist and adult/gerontological nurse practitioner.
Oh, and I am a active duty Navy officer (will be a Lieutenant Commander in about a month).
-
It is impressive the amount of education out there. Props to all of you. As for myself I have a bachelors degree in accounting and am currently working a a accountant monkey in a small company. Plan on going back to get a masters and become a CPA. Just have to find the time to go back to school (funny how it is never convenient).
-
I currently work in IT and have for the past 20 years but have always hated it. I am just completing my BS in Criminal Justice and am going to law school. I'm 41 so a late start but figured do it now lol

Yea. I worked as an Archaeologist while was in Jordan. It was pretty amazing ad I spent my weekends off travelling around the country exploring archaeological sites.
I'm almost done my degree and I'm going back to Jordan next year to do more work!

Thats awesome dude! I have a friend whose family is from Palestine originally and has family in Dubai too. Just hearing his stories and seeing pictures that he has from over there is so cool. Good luck with that :gj:

Well, Dubai is very different from where I went, but it is pretty cool. You do have to exercise a bit more caution in every day life (especially as a woman), but it was pretty tame. :P
The thing is, I'd have to give up my passion for Archaeology (I suppose I can volunteer on digs and such) if I go into high school teaching. Blegh. I have no idea what to do.

A lot of the keepers have biology or animal science degrees, I worked my way in through the gift shop and through helping them out when needed like an intern. Is a private zoo so its set up a little different than others. I had that dream and gave up on it for that reason (thinking it would be hard to get into). I had to get other jobs to support myself on my own anyway right after school and put off college but I think if I had a redo I would have pursued my degree and worked on getting into a zoo earlier. Sorry for my rant but I totally believe in following passions, life sucks when you hate what you do! Decent paying in a zoo, is difficult; it was a decision I made with my husband to pursue a less lucrative job for enjoying what I do. Plus with my psychology degree I will be able to have a backup if things need to change later, but for now i'm loving life!..end rant...

I'm a certified pipe welder with mig, tig, arc, fluxcore, and sub-arc and i am certified to weld on carbon, stainless, hasteloy, inconel, nickel, aluminum, titanium, and just about any other kind of metal lol. Have my OSHA certifications, CRC's, rigging and fall prevention certification, associates degree in automotive mechanics and welding, and took drafting classes. I was a boiler maker for a few years and that's where i received all my certifications. Not to bad for someone 28 i guess lol.
-
I work for a hospital scheduling appointments until this January when I will go part time work, full time school. Working on 2 associates... Radiology tech as my quick, easy, and better paying meal ticket and then Nutrition with an emphasis on fitness. The Nutrition degree I plan on developing into a master's (or higher) as life allows through the years and am really wanting to get involved with sports nutrition at some point. Or possibly research in that field.
-
I'm in my final year of Theoretical Physics. I have been offered a job with a few investment banks to join their Graduate Trading schemes, but have turned them down for the moment.
I have a few business ideas I'm working on, that I'd like to give it my all for 2 or 3 years whilst I have no commitments (children etc). If they don't work out, then I will go into Trading.
Although my end goal is to open a zoo like facility focusing on venomous snakes and crocodilians. As they're my two favourite things!
-
I'm a dog groomer lol
Definitely not a job for everyone ;)
