I took a few of the snakies out to play in the sun for a few minutes today. The primary reason for doing this was to get good shots for color comparison in natural light. I think some turned out pretty well, so I thought I'd share a few.

This shows the new arrival finding a 4-leaf clover:

And a good shot to show coloration:

Snyder's looking out for her buddy Hanover, who's in blue:

And here are Snyder and Hanover, just being buddies:

Thanks, y'all. :) It was gorgeous outside today, but the high was only 69F so they were only outside for less than ten minutes for me to snap the pics. I'll bet it was colder in Maine, though -- one good reason you won't catch me moving there! Hanover actually relaxed and started exploring, as did the others, but it's harder to get a good pic of an active snake than a still one ;)

Thanks Rusty! The sun really brings out their colors. Hopefully when I move I'll be in a house that has a yard less prone to filling with mosquitos and will be able to take them outside more often.

I wish I could take mine outside for photos too. Unfortunately, I don't think that our five inches of snow would be a good backdrop for them, unless you wanted to see frozen snakes! Wait a few months, though. :)

I live in southern california, so as far as weather goes, I would be able to take a snake out in the grass. But I live in a condo complex, so I'm not sure my neighbors would appreciate it.

Five inches of snow?!? Boy am I glad I don't live up there. I am not good with cold. :D I was concerned about what the neighbors would say, but it's not like they really get to have any input.

    Caging.
Dont know if this is off topic, but how long do you think one should handle a snake before feeling ok about venturing outside with them? By the way very nice pics Marla. Its good to see them out against natural terrain sometimes. :P

I cant venture outside my apartment with my girl! The neighbors would throw a fit and have me lynched!

Paul, I think that's going to depend on the person, weather, neighborhood, snake, etc. If your neighborhood is full of rattlesnake roundup fans, I'd say never. If your neighbors are distant or ok with your critters and other factors don't pose a danger, then I'd say whenever you feel confident that you and the snake are comfortable with your handling it.

Are there any concerns with taking them outside as far as ticks & mites is concerned?

By the way, those are some really nice lookin snakes Marla!! :)

Thanks, Damien, that would be Hanover. Sir Not is getting ready to shed, too, but he didn't make it into the photos this time.

Eddie, I don't know about the rest, but I'm certainly concerned about ticks and mites and won't be spending a lot of time outside with mine. And thanks for the compliment on the snakes. :)
