What is wrong with my rat
She was perfectly fine yesterday. Very alert, active, eating treats etc. today I opened her tub to check on her and she isn't hardly moving. She is just sitting there. Even if I touch her or pet her. There is a possibility she is pregnant.

Also, she is usually a pleasantly plump rat and I noticed it was kind of sunken in on her spine and hip area (more so in person than in pictures). She also had what looks like blood or pus or something coming out of her vagina. What is wrong with her? I've already been having a horrible week and I really don't want her to die :(

Also she was being housed with another female that just had a litter 2 days ago. What could cause her to go from perfect health to this in one day? I'm unsure of her age since I got her as a breeder from another member.

    Is she going to die?

Is there anything I can do?

I put the rat in her own separate tub.

Yea, I am thinking miscarriage as well.

I would give her some Ensure and some antibiotics just to try and save her. Remember not to give milk products (Ensure) and antibiotics at the same time as the antibiotics wont absorb right. Soy meal replacement drink would be fine.

I am sorry you are going through this with her. I normally put them down when this happens, so be prepared.

Tough call. Definitely separate her from the others and watch her. I generally put mine down too when problems like this arise. Sorry!

If you are going to be in Gainesville any time, you are more than welcome to come get a replacement or two.

Luckily, I have only had miscarriages happen to me about 3 or 4 times in the past year.

That female is a little over a year old.

Yeah I was thinking of just picking up some dry ice on my way home :( it just sucks because recently she has been super sweet instead if trying to bite me. I guess it is what it is :/

    Ok Good to hear.

Again, sorry you had to go through this. Like I said, luckily it doesn't happen often.

I put her down when I got home from school. I'll admit I shed a few tears. :(

But then this sweet little angel who I named tulip helped me study and made me feel appreciative of the rest of my colony :)

    I am so sorry.

Tulip looks like such a sweet girl. Is she American blue dumbo?

Sorry you lost her. It looks like she may have had an infection. I have a cat that had an infected uterus, she is fine now. But she needed emergency surgery to save her. It is something that happens time to time. She could have also had a fetus die in her and decay, which would have caused an infection and toxins.

Yes tulip is very sweet! I believe she is an American blue dumbo as well. He also has that little stripe of white down her face but I'm not sure what it is called! She is a little cuddle bug.
