The poor sweetie!. I put her antibiotics in her water bowl as the doc recomended. As you may know, the tablets smell like rodent. She just tried to constrict and eat the water bowl

Can you inject it into a mouse and then feed her the mouse? Of course, that only gets her dosed about once a week or however often she'll eat. How often did the doc say to dose her? Did he give any advice besides putting it in the water? (Which doesn't seem at all like a safe way to give your animal the proper dosage of medicine!)

I know. Its supposed to be a tablet a day in her water bowl for a week. She got a shot yesterday.

That seems odd. It doesn't seem like you can be sure that the snake is getting the proper dosage. Our snakes had liquid medicine that we administered orally with a syringe.

I'm going to go to the Vet again today, and see if I can get the liquid stuff!

Heheh yeah that's big fun getting them to open their mouths and swallow it all.

I've never heard of putting meds in the water and counting on their drinking it. Generally it's either oral or sub-cue administration, or occasionally loading prey items.

You might want to give your vet a second thought if that's how he recommended dosing a snake. (Or honestly, any animal for that matter) You have no way of controlling or knowing for sure how much of the medicine is ingested that way. And while bp's WILL go out and drink, I can't imagine that they actually drink enough volume to get a full dose of medicine.

Try www.arav.org for a list of reptile and amphibian vets in your area.

Well that's no good. But you could try calling that one and ask for a recommendation in your area, or call the nearest vet school and ask the same.

I think I will just take her to the University. They have a snake lab there and some highly educated Herpetologists. Hopefully they can help with her.

Good luck. That may well be a good plan to try.

General question on snakes interacting with one another
Hi ya'll. I'm training to be a Vet Tech and I've been taught that you can crush up the pill and mix it in water or karo (if karo is safe for snakes, I know it's safe for horses and pretty much everything out there). Just a suggestion, might be worth a try.

But if you were mixing a pill with water or karo, wouldn't you do it within a specific amount of liquid and make sure the animal drank the entire amount? You can get a dog to completely slurp out a small bowl of somthing yummy, or squirt a bunch of karo down a horse's throat. But how do you get your snake to drink the proper amount of dosed water?
