has anyone ever seen this crazy color orange belly on a ballpython
-
It looks kinda odd. Either she is in shed, is mildly burned, or has some funky colors.
-
What are ur temps? Could be a mild burn
-
she about 3 months old. no burn . i use backheat in my rack. with paper towels.

Well, does this snake normally look like this? Or is this something new? What makes you think it isn't a shed?

everytime she sheds the orange gets brighter
-
Could be increased blood flow.
-
Hmm. I would think first a burn, or shed. But it is more orange than pink, preshed tends to be more pink. Do you have more pics, maybe from when you first got her?? Or in a different light?

thats 3 type of lighting in the pictures.

How long have you had her?
To me it looks like the old food color trick.
-
If it's not a burn, burn its an irritation of some sort. It looks painful.
What kind of bedding are you using. How wet is it?

I was going to suggest that maybe the previous owner had her on some sort of bedding that could have caused that. Kind of like beardies on calci-sand. But if she's shed for you I would imagine it would have removed whatever stains. Maybe she is just a real orangebelly lol
-
My snakes will sometimes get a weird brown/orange/red color from Repti-bark, I stopped using it for that reason actually (didn't seem to harm them at all, but I don't like the idea of my snakes getting stained)
Or maybe the belly is actually that orange, keep an eye on her behavior, make sure there isn't anything that could be considered an irritant, and if the color stays? Cool! Maybe try and breed it out

I can only guess, but I think it would be using food coloring on your animal to make it look 'special' and sell it as if it were genetic. Since you are not selling, I would rule that out.

Re: has anyone ever seen this crazy color orange belly on a ballpython
I've got 1.1 c.h. babies that have that same belly thing going on. It has paled out over the last 6 months but they both are pretty orangeish colored on the sides darking as it comes up the back. Dinker project for me. Only time will tell Wth is going on.
-
I bought a snake that was on newspaper that looked like that the ink stained the snake. It was the sales ad the smooth shiny paper not the normal rough paper
-
My hatchlings looked like that while I had them on repti-zorb. I would put them on sani-chips and within a shed their bellies would be back to white. Within days of being back on the repti-zorp sheets, the orange/brown coloration was back. I have since stopped using Repti-zorb sheets. I have no idea what else could have contributed to this as everything else remained the same.

Re: has anyone ever seen this crazy color orange belly on a ballpython
maybe its somthing new. i dont know. she is 3 times a week rat pups. .
-
I've had an subadult and an adult that got very orange on the belly and then it went away. I assumed it was due to shedding or newspaper. It stayed a while, then they went back to normal.
I would make certain she's not getting too humid or soaking a lot and causing some sort of irritation or fungus, and keep an eye on it. If she stays orange on the belly when she's an adult, you can always check if it's genetic with some breeding.

Prove it out.
Let us know what you decide to name it a few years....
-
Looks just like a snake going into shed cycle to me...
The shine i see is an indicator of this. Definitely pre-shed.

np will do.

Do the paper towels have orange designs on them? I don't know why it's belly would be like that other than being stained. My albino gets abnormally stained from the newspaper compared to the other bps in my collection.
-
I have actually seen several very young ball pythons with really orange bellies like this. It always goes away once the baby reaches a few hundred grams in size. I've seen normals and yellowbellies that had it, and if I remember correctly, a single cinnamon.
I would be very interested to know if it changes as the baby gets bigger.

no i only use white paper towels

The color is less concerning than the seemingly shiny texture of the skin/scales to me. That's actually a sign of the first stages of scale rot or fungal issues if a baby, or any snake for that matter, is kept on a damp surface for too long. If its paper towels are dry that couldn't be the problem though so who knows. It's just not right for a ball to look so hard and glossy like that.
