    Shipping without syr
I am trading with someone and need to ship to fla. Could I just put the snake in a box wrapped in a bag and insulated with 3/4 foam and write perishable on the box and ship with fedex?

I'm fairly certain that you have to be certified to ship a live reptile via fedex. SYR is probably your best option.

If you cant do it correctly then youre better off not doing it at all. You have to go through an approval process before you can ship straight through FedEx, your ONLY alternative is SYR

Just use SYR; we don't need any more bad press about the reptile industry if the package is found by the wrong person. :colbert:

No you cannot if you want to use Fedex directly you need to be certified (it takes about 2 weeks), if you are not please do not ship directly through fedex use SYR.

It's completely illegal to ship live animals unless you are certified, or you use SYR..

    Please use SYR!

Why would you pay more to ship on your own? Don't be that guy.... Seriously.

Besides, with the Lacey act being more strict now, you'd be surprised how many boxes get a surprise inspection at FedEx.. Especially if it appears to be a live animal and your name is not coming up in their system as being certified. They are not stupid. They do this for a living..

I wasn't aware it was illegal. I have never shipped a reptile before That's why I was asking the question. I prefer to do things the right way especially when the animals health is concerned. I asked the question so I could.

I found the SYR web site and it gibes an option for shipping kits which one do you reccomend for a 2000g ball. I was thinking #3. What's your opinions.

You can also use ReptilesExpress.com, but if I were planning on shipping on a regular basis I would get certified on your own. The other method you can use is Delta Dash, but this only gets the animal from Airport to Airport. You don't have to get any special approvals to ship a live animal through Delta Dash.

I'm certified, but I use SYR exclusively. I have a horrible rep that I can never get in touch with.

I need the service level of SYR.

x2 SYR is easier, better service, and cheaper, and can ship directly to residences (against TOS with "regular" Fedex certification). I don't know why anyone would go straight through Fedex as long as SYR is an option.

STR and reptiles express have both been cheaper than shipping reptiles through just fedex alone.

Is it possible to order the shipping kits from SYR and have them on 'standby' until you need to book the actual shipping?

I use kit #2 for baby ball pythons. Is this an adult? Yeah, I think kit #3 is the way to go for an adult ball python.

I know this is way later on after the original post but in my opinion reptilesexpress has been significantly cheaper than SYR and the customer service is very good as well. I've used both and the price differences can be large, sometimes $25-30 between the two.

Mschmied- you may be seeing the difference between an SYR shipment that is Priority Overnight, and a RE shipment that is Standard Overnight. FedEx does not allow reptiles to be shipped Standard, and I wish RE wouldn't court the cheap dollar by offering it against FedEx TOS.

At ShipYourReptiles, we offer 20% off the FedEx retail rate, and the discount can improve with volume. We also offer unique features that no one else does, including our On-Time and Live Arrival Insurance, and now we offer a convenient micro-funding option that allows you to donate as little as 50 cents to USARK/PIJAC to preserve your own future ability to keep and ship reptiles. We are committed to the industry, our service is terrific, and our customer service is unbeatable. There are lots of reasons to choose SYR : )

I ended up using SYR and was very satisfied with the service and the cost was way less than I expected.

Great to hear of your success! Once you get a shipment or two under your belt, it isn't nearly as daunting or nerve wracking : )

Don't do it! I work for FedEx and when it hits that express terminal or airport like another person said with what you'd put on the box to assure safe shipping when your name comes back not certified the package will be opened and turned over to authorities. DONT DO IT! !!!!

Officially, by way of TOS, none of the carriers will accept tarantulas.
