    Tub Tags!
Since my collection has grown quite a bit, I have found I have a hard time remembering exactly who is in which tub. So I made some tags for my tubs!

Every snake has a code name on the front (morph,#,gender, year). On the back is the snakes name, if it has one! I still have quite a few to name!

    http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8194/8...bf416421_b.jpg

These tags are kinda cool. They are chalkboard coated and if I use a chalkboard marker the text washes off and I can write something different on it!

Do you guys have tags on your tubs? If so, post a picture! If not, how do you keep track of who is where?

I have QR codes on each of my cages that I use with my database (take a picture with my phone and it pulls up that snakes records)

I also have magnets with labels on them for identification (I use magnets so it is easy to relabel a cage if I move snakes around)

I like the QR code idea! Could I see a picture of that when you get a chance? Might be worth making QR code stickers for my tags or something.

Where do you stick the magnets to?

I found them at Michaels in the bridal area.. I think the tags are supposed to be some kind of party or bridal shower thing. Who knows! They were on sale :P Bet the lady at the cash register had no clue what I would really be using them for haha!

I also jsut put tags on my tubs!

I knew who was in which tub but my mother didnt and insisted I put tags on them lol.

But anyways here is a pic on how I did mine.

    http://i1172.photobucket.com/albums/.../andromeda.png

    Top is the name.

Q2 = She was born in the second quarter of the year

2012 = the year she was born

    F = Sex

    Clown obvious is morph.

Thats how my tags are set up.

Not very high tech, but I just take a little piece of blue painters tape, write the snake's name, sex, morph and hatch year with a sharpie, and stick it to the front of the tub.

I'll see if I can get some pictures.

What I do is I buy magnet strips that have adhesive on the back and stick them to the cage. Then get another magnet (of the opposite polarity) and put my label on it. So the magnets stick together.

I use FileMaker Pro for my custom database... the version of FileMaker Pro that I am using doesn't have native support for QR codes (but I'm fairly certain that the newest version does) so I actually wrote an app for my iPhone to access the database off my server and assign a QR code to each animal. If there is enough interest I can look into getting the app onto the app store.

I'm sure that there are other ways to incorporate QR codes. I already had the FileMaker Pro database set up before I started using QR codes so I just went with it.

It would be cool to make QR codes that link to IHerp tracking. That seems to be very popular, but I don't think they have a phone ap yet?

Right now I do all my tracking on an excel spreadsheet. Very high tech..

I use iHerp as well, it wouldn't be too hard to make QR codes that link to iHerp.

    I figured as much :P

I find Iherp a little annoying to use. Too many clicks to add things. I usually just fill it in with my written/excel records.

For the magnets, are you able to get two strips on one cage? Like, when I pair my snakes I move the clip with the snake to the other enclosure so I know where everyone is.

Easily... in fact that was the original reason why I used magnets, so moving the labels during breeding would be easier.

Mine are set up like so. I print them on business card stock and use plastic name tag holders.

Tape and a sharpie! :) The morph displayed on the front of the tub. If I have more than one type which I have 3 big normals they just get 'FNormal-1' or whichever. Then all the other info is on my data sheet that goes with each snake: feeding log; hatch date and who I purchased it from; arrival weight and date; monthly weight and any other notes go on my data sheets! Nothing special, I know... But someday. :)

my fiance and I use a simple picture id with everything printed on it and then sealed ( that thermal plastice stuff) that we cut and then tape to the fron of the cage. it has ) most the tiem the first gotten picture of the snake)
their name morph, year born or aquired ( rought guessing on some) ad their temper ment ( if they a biter or laid back) this way if we sell or trade a snake off the person will ( now on get the info wit hthe snake) sucks Icasue I not been able to print all myine out cause printer ran out of ink lol.. these come out liek business card and are easy to move with stoch tape. but I like that magent idea will have to look for some the next time I got money to spare.

I just open the tubs and ask, who are you??

lol, kidding! I use a label maker and attach the label to the shelf just above the tub.

I keep all their info in a binder. No tub tags. I know where everybody is, lol, but occasionally hubby will ask "who's in that tub?". I was going to have my daughter make some name cards for them, haven't gotten around to it. But I like those chalk ones you have too. Maybe I should go over to Michael's....

Here was my quick fix. I'm using binder clips with cheap business key tags. We had a box of them laying around the home office. ID in the front, sex on the back.

I use key tags that attach using those black paper clips with everyone's name and what they are on the back. Guys get written in blue and girls in pink, and they all have their cage cards next to the tub that keeps all their info(feeding shed defecate etc) work amazing for me.

Edit mine look just like the post above.

I know what I have however in the event something happens I guess it would make it easier for whomever is left with the mess ;)

My tubs currently aren't labeled. I know who's who and where they are or should go. I am going to have to start labeling them for my sister though. She can't tell them apart like I can yet. :P

My plan is to get a laminator and make tags using that. I plan to attach them using the velcro and having an extra piece on the female cages for breeding.

I also use QR codes it is easy as I use the reptile scan app on the iphone. It keeps a data base on line so you can use the phone to enter data or computer and can also reference it anywhere.
I have additional info on my tag there are new guidelines coming from DNR that are going to require the latin name and common as well so i just went ahead and did that anyway.

Right now I just use labeled duck-tape. All my snakes are a year old or less, so I'm not doing any breeding this season. However, next spring I'll be getting a separate rack for my cornsnakes (right now they are on the bottom 2 rows of my rack) and will implement a new labeling system with ID holders and those QR codes. They will all be attached via velcro or magnets so when I'm pairing, the male's card can go with him to the female tub so I know who's with who. I will also have a slot for their breeding records (on the female's tub) that said when she was with which male and when I witnessed locks, etc.

    http://imageshack.us/a/img849/6020/labelse.jpg

Here's a closeup of one of the tubs. Right now it has their name, morph, and gender.

    http://imageshack.us/a/img39/6467/label1c.jpg

Once I start breeding, all the babies will be getting a code (ex: 2012C1-2F - clutch one of 2012, 2nd female) that will be on their tubs to identify who's who.

Here are mine. They're attached to the tub with name badge holders. When a male goes to visit a female, I just move his tag along with him. I like them because its nice to know who's where, in case I have someone who's testy, it's nice to be prepared.

Guys, QR-codes are really simple, i dont think you even need a special software for it.

You just need to put your snakes online so that you get a link for each snake. Might be some image folders with a description, might be on your own website, somewhere in the cloud, doesnt matter much. If you only use it at home, and your phone is connected to your local private network when you are at home, then you can also link there.

then you go here: http://goqr.me/ and put in the link, QR-code is generated instantly. Other websites offer the same service.

Thats it. Now you scan the QR and get a link to the snake. You can also add some info about the snake into the QR code, like name/morph/year.

its really easy, generating and downloading it takes less than a minute per QR code, without any software.

    Re: Tub Tags!
I recently made new tags for my snakes when I got my new racks in January. They have the basic info (name, morph, and gender) on the front with their "ID Code" written on the bag. My tags are held onto the tubs by velcro when I move males, his tag follows him into the female's tub and I put it on her velco strip. Also, boys have a blue outline, girls have a pink outline. Also, they are in name tag sleeves - I just removed the little pins.

So I decided to try out the badge holder / clip style. I like that I can move the badge with the male so that I (or my husband) can see who has a "do not disturb" sign, so to speak. This is just for labeling, as I use index cards for feeds/weights/pairings. I might look into qr codes for that if I find a set up I like online. We'll see!

    Thanks for the great ideas!
