I try to keep my cages with a hot side of 90 and a cool side between 80-82 degrees. Don't kill yourself trying to lower the temps but if you can it would be best.

yea everything i have read has said those temps are best. ive been trying to bring them down but its hard living in college dorms with inconsistent temps haha. so its either a little high, or 2-3 degrees low. would i be better off with these slightly high temps or the lower ones?

I've found that my BP's do best when the cool side is above 78. If you could lower just the hot side a few degrees. 88-92 is the ideal range. I wouldn't go lower than 88 for the hot side.

alright, thank you very much for the help. i actually got the hot side down to 92 right now, ill leave it alone for now and see how it is when i wake up in the morning. the cool side is still around 82-84 degrees, i can probably get that down though as i have half of the tank lid covered up right now

    How are you heating it?

If a heat lamp is the source and your just placing the fixture on the screen top check into a lamp stand. They are about $23 and come in a yellow box at both big pet stores. It's made by ZooMed. This would give you the ability to raise and lower the fixture which will in turn lower or raise the temp. They also extend your bulbs life because your not constantly moving it around. Plus they keep the heat over the tank so it remains warm as you work in the tank.

im using a heat lamp, and uth. ive got the uth on a light dimmer so ive been able to mess with its output. ill look into the lamp stand though, thanks!

The uth will not really effect your ambient temps.

Be careful using a dimmer. The problem with them is they don't change the output as the room temp changes. If your room gets warmer the uth will be at the same power and get to warm and vice versa. If a room gets warmer with a tstat the uth power is reduced to keep it at the desired temp.

When you can upgrade to a tstat, do it.

How are you getting the uth temp, digital thermometer with probe?

See im only using a heat lamp infer red at night and a day bulb from petsmart during the day. I keep saying im going to get a uth but I keep forgetting lol. My house sucks on insulation so that could be y what ever temps are outside my house will be about the same lol. And not to mention my setup is in my living room. wouldnt really go in any other room. I do mist my tank once a day and I have some fake plants in there now that kinda hold the water along with the logs that are in there that helps my humidity and I have over half the top covered in foil. I have a 55 gal tank. I see me going to tubs before to long lol or at least see how they wrk i love my tank tho I love to watch my lil man explore (so does my rottie she sits there all day ha)

I have insulated silver bubble wrap cover 2/3 of my tank screen tops. I also have my 2 red lamps on Exo-Terra lamp stands that attach to the glass with a sticky pad. They are available at PetSmart for about 15$. I think they were plenty worth the investment because I can move the lamp up or down an inch or two to adjust temps. I have a 10 and a 20 gallon long terrariums. These 75W red bulbs keep my temps great. Right at 90hot/80cool +/-1. I can also swing the lamp to the side to get in the tank without turning it off or worrying about getting burned. The link included can get you them for even cheaper but you'll pay shipping/handling. Just showing you the product.

I get mine from an exotic pet shop that is local to me. Petsmart/Petco usually carry the same products as well for decent prices.

Amazon, Reptile Basics, LLLReptile, Big Apple Herp, and The Bean Farm are all good websites to get these types of things from.
