    Funny story
So I got home from work this evening and I am talking with my dad.

DAD: "Hey that shelf thing your snakes are in there are lids on the tubs right?"

ME: "No the shelves are intentionally spaced so as to not need lids."

DAD: "Well your mom looked closer at the shelves and she is a little freaked that they might get out."

ME: "Oh no that won't happen there is only like 1/4" or less of a gap."

I walk into my room and I notice that the tub Clyde, my 400g normal, is in is slightly pulled out but it didn't look like enough to fit through. I pulled out my tubs to check on my babies like I always do when I get home. I pick up the cool side hide and no Clyde. I think oh he must be soaking up some heat. Lift the warm side hide and.....NO CLYDE!!!! OMG My first escape AHHHH! :O lol Luckily he hadn't gone far. He was on the empty shelf two down from his. When he saw that I had found him he ended up getting stuck between the wall and the shelf in his attempt to get away. So I disaster avoided. Mom must never know either lol. I keep my bedroom door closed so they wouldn't get too far anyways. In this case I think my mom jinxed me. I may have to come up with a way to secure the tubs because I think Clyde wedged his way out and forced the tub out a bit. I don't believe I left it out that much although you can't rule out anything

I say mom did it. Probably peeked in and saw Clyde and got scared and didn't put the tub back all the way. Yep. Mom did it. :D

In your post your dad told you your mom was looking at them you think she may have pulled them out to look at them and did not put them back in place?

You can always drill holes in front of the tubs on the actually rack system and put in a golf tee. That will help to keep them from sliding out. Then, whenever you pull the tub out or push it back in, you have to push/pull it entirely in order to put the tee back in. Just an idea. I'll be doing this with my new rack.

I use little plastic tabs like the kind used to keep screens in on doors and windows. I always flip the tabs down to secure the tub.

Is this a homemade or professionally built rack?

Oh no she won't even go into my room. She looked at the tub rack walking by my room and glancing in. I'll bring one of my boys down stairs and hold him while we watch TV and the whole time I'm in the living room she's all fidgety and uncomfortable even across the room.

Why can't my homemade rack be professional? Lol No I built it.following a diy thing on american exotics website. That's why there are no locks on it at the moment. I'll rig something up.

The golf tee thing is definitely what I'm thinking of doing but i'd have to figure out something different for the top tub. I built my bearded dragons' cage to sit on top of three tub rack I made. Will be a simple mod to do though so i'm not worried. Thanks for the tips everyone!

Plastic tubs are typically a little flexible. In my DIY rack I had about a 1/4" gap (maybe a little smaller) and I had an escape. She was about 400-500g at the time and managed to squeeze out. It took me a week to find her, needless to say I put lids on to fill in the gap after I found her. They can squeeze through some small spaces and if the plastic tubs are even remotely flexible they can get through.

Unfortunately the plans I followed called for such little spacing that I couldn't force a tub in with a lid if I tried lol

I'm trying to ask on every thread about escapes what kind of rack it was. So far every escape thread I've read has been from a DIY rack.

I'm not going to draw any direct conclusions about machine cut, grooved, floating lip PVC racks that are sold ready for assembly versus the DIY ones that everyone seems to be losing snakes out of ...

... but there certainly seems to be a correlation in my research so far.

If your research has taught you anything, it should be that if you choose a DIY rack to build that you need to either ensure it has locking mechanisms or that you need to work them in yourself :P
When I built my rack I didn't realize that my BPs would be able to wedge themselves out a small game and actually move the tub.
