    new king!
Well I went to a reptile expo this weekend looking for a bp, but this little guy caught my eye. He's a hypo brooks king.

Love the pattern on his head.

He looks even better in person! They had a few other hypo's there, but he was the best looking by far.

Obviously from his eyes he's close to going into shed. What would y'all suggest for feeding? Should I just wait until he's done and then try? The breeder said he last ate on monday(10/8).

This is his setup right now, water has been moved to the wall though and another small hide added.

I also put some smaller hides inside the bigger ones.

Thanks for the help guys! Loving him so far!

Have you checked the temps on top of the substrate, I think I remember your tub with 2"+ of substrate and that may buffer the heat before it gets to your new guy's hides. Nice looking pick up, congrats!

With kings, they will eat anytime. I don't think it will matter much to him if you wait for shedding or not. They usually don't even need time to adjust to a new home, they just love to eat!

I have the accurite probe at the level on the substrate. Ambient is around 75 and the probe is usually at 77-79. I've heard that the accurite isn't too accurate so i'm sort of guessing right now. The thermostat is set at 87 because i'm expecting to lose a few degrees through it. What would y'all suggest to get a accurate reading? Humidity according to accurite is around 65. Also he has been burrowing a good bit on the side the uth is on.

I think there is a good site that is "stickied" somewhere on this website with recomendations for good thermometers. I think reptile basics sells one for about 35 that I plan to get soon. I have been using the cheapo that I bought from petsmart. I know that I had my substrate at about 1.5-2" and the thermometer regestered 95 at the bottom but only got to 85 or so on top of the substrate and I had a regurge that I have been dealing with since. If you find a good one then post it and I will follow along too!

Well he ate! I decided to try a f/t pinky and he immediately went after it. He's still trying to go after my finger! haha Think I should try another or just wait another few days?

Also my hot side temps according to 2 accurites is around 80-81. Low side 76-78. Will that heat be enough? I have the uth set to 92 because it is going through a good bit of substrate. Should I leave it as is, take some substrate out, or just bump the thermostat up? He's seems pretty active.

Need some help guys. He is starting to shed, but its not coming off all as one. Humidity is at roughly 60%, temps 75-78 cool side, around 82 at the hot spot. Should I try soaking him? Also it seemed like it was delayed. When I got him his eyes turned cloudy and he turned opaque. Then he cleared up for a few days(3-5) and now this. Sound normal?

No telling what his conditions were before you got him. You might try soaking him some and try letting him crawl through a wet towel to get the shed off. You could also try leaving him in a wet snake bag overnight.

If he has stuck shed I'd let him run himself through a damp towel or I lightly mist the enclosure/substrate overnight and check on them the next day. Usually that helps a lot too.

Snakes will go through the blue stage, clear up again, then shed so that's a normal shed process. Some take longer to shed after the clear stage than others.

Thanks for the help guys! I came back about an hour later and he had almost shed all the way! The only part that didn't come off perfect was the tail.

Hey guys...went to change his water a few mins ago and found a tiny brown bug near his tail. So i'm assuming he has mites. This is the only one i've seen in his cage so I hope I caught it early enough. What is the best course of action to get rid of them?
