I just need a moment to vent..

I have an ad up in my local classifieds in the wanted section. I'm looking for a mini fridge to turn into an incubator, and I've asked for one for free. I've also stated, it does not need to be working. This is a reply I get:

Seriously, stop asking for a free fridge. WORK, save some money, and BUY one like everyone else! Now, this person clearly knows nothing about me, or what I want it for. What gives this person the right to be a jerk to me, and then hide their email address so that I can't even reply? If they're so ashamed of what they're saying that they have to hide who they are, they clearly shouldn't be sending such emails. I'm not going to pay for a non-working fridge, and again, I stated in my ad that the fridge DOES NOT need to be in working condition. If this person had better reading skills, maybe I never would have received this email in the first place. Venting now done. Thanks! :)

How irritating! Lord knows non-working fridges are something you have to work REALLY hard for, y'know, not like people try to dump them normally :rolleyes: The joys of craigslist/classifieds

Now, I'll admit that there are posts on CL that irritate me when people want something valuable for free (purebred puppies, electronics, etc.), but that is just ridiculous that some coward is attacking you for basically offering to pick up someone's GARBAGE.

Shouldn't that person be at WORK instead of wasting time sending off random replies to CL ads? :rolleyes: Yeah, some people don't have anything better to do.

I know exactly what you mean. It drives me crazy when I see ads where people ask for a puppy, but can't afford to pay for it.. if they can't pay for the puppy, then how are they going to pay for food, shots, getting the dog fixed, ect. But as much as I hate seeing those ads, it's not my place to email these people and be so rude to them.

I just couldn't believe this person didn't read the ad properly, assumed (incorrect) things about me, sent such a rude email to me, and then hid who they were so that I couldn't even reply with an explanation (and possibly tell them to mind their own business).

It's a website that puts people in touch with other people that want to get rid of their stuff.

I've had all sorts of people respond to my ads being complete jerks.
I'm dealthy allergic to cats ... Well, my boyfriend and I were moving in together, and he had a cat...
So we posted an ad for a free adorable, healthy cat, and I got numerous different hate emails
about how awful of a girlfriend I am and how we shouldn't be allowed to own animals if we're just going
to get rid of them and all sorts of insane stuff. It was ridiculous!
People are stupid.
I'm sorry you had to get a dumb email!

I tend to edit my ads to reflect e-mails like that sometimes, haha. If they don't give their e-mail address, chances are they're just looking to complain. And chances are, they'll probably come back and check if your ad is still there :gj: Maybe don't post a direct response to said person, but I would clarify: "Since some people seem to be confused as to why I'm asking for this, I'm literally looking for a broken fridge so that I can convert it into something else. Not looking for handouts. But thanks to those of you who were concerned that I needed to find a job! I'm actually doing just fine, haha."

Also, I'm having trouble with that site. I can't seem to ad my area's group so I can see what's available. Everytime I push the "join group" button, it just goes to a page that says to come back again. Any ideas?

They use Yahoo Groups so I think you need to have a Yahoo account first. There should be a direct link on Freecycle to the Yahoo Groups page for your area. If you do have a yahoo account, you may want to try clearing your cookies, using a different browser, or selecting a different area (just to troubleshoot) in case there is something going on with your area's page.

I still use CL from time to time, but I hate it. There are too many crazy lunatics and hard line animal rights nuts who make rude comments, threatening emails or flag anything they don’t like. They have nothing better to do with their miserable lives than to sit on their butts all day and police the adds. The sad part is that CL could be a very good site, it's the "community" policing part that needs to be fixed.

Amen to that! Other breeders in our area watch it like a hawk and flag any reptile ad that isn't their own. We know exactly who it is too. :mad:

I can't deal with the frustration anymore, so I have my wife do all our CL dealings. We also no longer post our information on there, either. We rarely even do any dealings by phone unless we know the person, all email these days. One night I was texting a guy about a snake we had for sale. I told him we weren't interested in any trades and he flipped out because we wouldn't trade him and he re-posted our phone numbers all over CL (in several major cities) in an ad for free electronics and furniture that needed gone that night. The ad said to call anytime since we would be up all night. Within minutes our phones were blowing up. We literally got hundreds of calls that night. Keep in mind this was well after midnight. Several hours later we were finally able to get a hold of someone at CL through email who was able to take down all the fake ads.

I must give the guy an "A" for effort, though. It was a pretty good prank, but that ruined CL for me.

AKedit: OP, too bad you're not closer. My mother in law has several old mini fridges gathering dust in her shed. I'm sure she would part with one or several.

Some people are so horrible! That was a super jerk-move on that guy's part, all because he didn't get what he wanted. At least you were able to get the fake ads removed!

And thanks. I'm in Canada so I'm a little far from Ohio. lol. Not a problem, I'll just keep looking and hopefully someone will be willing to let go of one for $20-$40.
