Renick Mojave
Does anyone work with these/know what sets them apart from other Mojaves?
Looking on KS and saw one listed for some $$. Looked like a nice reduced pattern Mojave. Is that the difference or is there more to the "Renick Mojave"?
-
Wow, no replies. $1200 for a male may not be a deal....
-
I dont know anything about them, but I googled it and saw pics, they look like really nice reduced pattern Mojaves, but that to me does not justify 1200 dollars for a male.. there better be something else going on with them.. I have see others on here with nice reduced pattern mojaves like that.

Like myself. I hatched 2 Pastaves and 1 Mojave and they have a nice reduced pattern to them. I hope there's something else going on with them because I sold my male Mojave for the going rate.
-
I dont see anything wrong with that, going rate is fine, even maybe a little more for a nice quality animal like that, but 1200.. thats a bit much.

Direct from his website:
The Renick Mojave is the combination of a Renick and Mojave gene. These vary in pattern and color, these have a jagged back striping and washed out sides. This is from a "dinker" project of mine called the "Renick" gene, I am hoping to have a "Super" to this is 2012.

Ben can sell his animals for whatever he wants to. I think it's rather bold to be that critical. Instead of saying it BETTER have something else going on.

Exactly. There are a lot of breeders that charge premiums for some animals. They will either sell or not at that price.

I happen to think that critter is awesome - and I'd pay more than mojave market for it. But then, I generally buy the best examples of mutations that I can and am willing to pay for that privilege. I'm just happy to see that there are other breeder out there selectively breeding nice animals to nice animals to make mutations better. I also sell many of my production for more than market, because their quality is highly desired.

You are on a roll, lol, I also fully agree with this. I am more than willing to pay over market for an outstanding example. Garbage in is generally garbage out, and vice versa.
Now, HOW MUCH I would pay over market depends on the animal.
In this case, it at least look like Ben thinks something else is going on. I would have to know more about the project before putting down that kind of cash, but if you can get Mojos like that consistently, you would EASILY make your money back with a male in one season since you can charge at least 100-200 over standard (maybe more), and way more for the combos. A lot of folks do not consider this when looking at a price tag on a animal.

Sounds like he's still dinking around with the "Renick" gene, I would expect to pay more to get in on the ground floor of a new project. That said, does anybody know if he's been able to isolate the gene or is it only available in the mojave combo?
-
Well, considering how unbelievable Ben's animals are in general, I have no doubt that mojave is worth what he's asking for it. I am fortunate in that Ben lives near me, and I see him regularly at shows. I get to see these amazing animals up close. And believe me, if you think they are crazy in pictures, you should see them in person.

I agree i would def pay more than market price on a quality animal

Who's being critical? I was HOPING something else was going on because if not, well I hatched 3 this season and already sold one.
Not familiar with the Renick gene. I wasn't sure if it was an extra gene or just a reduced Mojave.
SOOORRRRRRYYYYYY!

Re: Renick Mojave
I don't see the huge issue.
We've got bananas vs coral glows.
We've got phantoms vs mystics.
We've got TSK vs VPI vs Joliff.
Just think of it like that.
To me, the snake on the Renick website looks kinda like a faded Potion.
-
The snake I saw for sale was on Kingsnake.com and I don't think it was being sold by Ben Renick. It was another breeder selling a "Renick Mojave" for $1200. That is why I started this thread. Just curious.
Not saying someone can't ask/pay more for an awesome example of a morph. I totally agree, higher end morphs should bring higher prices.
I was just looking for more info.

Yup, that's why I adopted Sean Bradley's saying....Examine the snake, not the deal. ;)

I purchased the "Renick" gene from Ben last year. This gene is really neat by itself. It has cool flames and really raises the pattern. He's made combos with a pastel, cinny, mojave, and lesser. I'm putting mine with YB because I think it might do something special there. I personally really like what it does, and more will come.
-
I have discussed this Renick Mojo with a few of my buddies and one of them suggest that it's possibly a Harlequin Mojo. Which if it is, makes sense on the price cus the Harlequin's are about to blow up.

Re: Renick Mojave
Just noticed this thread, so concerning the Renick gene, it's a project I've been working on for a few years, it is a SEPARATE gene that works it's magic in many different ways. I will update more on this in the 2013 season as I'm not releasing any more animals from the project currently. The gene has been isolated and I've produced a few various combinations with it. This project has a HUGE range of possibilities of what it can do, like Brant said, more will come. :gj: If anyone has any further questions on it, feel free to email me to ben@renickreptiles.com.

Looks a lot like the PE Stripe stuff we were messing with for years. I love the look. We ended up producing some tri-stripe looking stuff from our line. Best of luck Ben!
