Boi
Don't know if this is the proper place or not:
Please tell me I'm not the only one who creeps and reads threads in full from the BOI?
Its 1:57 and I'm probably not going to bed till 3 because I found a ridiculous bad guy thread from my town haha
-
I do enjoy them lol, those along with the thread here on Ball Bids are great for early morning reading.
(seeing how it's 4:00 A.M. local time here in Orlando...)
-
The ballbid threads have taken up much of my time :/ it's like... A herp related soap opera haha
-
It's interesting when the BOI turns around halfway through to actually prove the buyer as a bad guy, and the seller being a good guy. It's that twist in the soap opera we never see coming! Ok..sometimes we see it coming...but still. Interesting non the less.
-
Faunadrama is the best! It really is like a soap oprah and I fall for it every time.
-
I definitely get sucked in to the soap opera. I was glued to it when I first discovered it and lost way to much time reading it. Now it is just the occasional read. I'm glad it is there though. Drama aside, it's just nice to know who to watch out for.
-
Faunadrama... I like it!
I've lost myself reading a bad (or good sometimes!) guy thread. It reminds me a lot of this:

I mostly just read my good guy threads ;)
Joking, but yeah, some of those threads are just :rolleye2:

I despise BOI's. I've seen them turn against the buyer many times when the sellers buddies/fan club run to their aid and gang up on the buyer. They will do anything to demonize the buyer to protect their buddies shady reputation. I have been on the losing end of such BOI's when I got screwed over by a guy and even had proof he screwed me over. Never again. They are a joke and only cater to further the reputations of the popular crowd.

x2. As much entertainment as the absolute nuts can provide, I could see how it would really screw good people who didn't have the "fanclub" behind them :(

Alright before it goes any further here is a little reminder

If you have your ducks in a row and go into it like you might a court case, then you shouldn't have any issues with the boi.
There is nothing like it anywhere that is as reliable of a source for information regarding good people especially, but even bad people.
In any BOI type setting there is going to be cases that are not presented correctly and up disastrous for the OP, thankfully most are not like that.

Went and creeped on Jerry's BOIs, seeing as I just paid for a mojo male! Lookin good Jerry! ;)

I suspect there is more to this story than you are letting on.
Sour Grapes comes to mind.
-
The problem I have had with the BOI's I've read is the lack of respect towards the seller from the buyers. I understand being frustrated if you have had a negative experience as a buyer, but a lot of people let their frustrations supersede their ability to be articulate and objective. It makes you look like a child having a temper tantrum if you resort to calling names and slinging mud. Just my HO.
Cheers,
Chris.

Yup, I will admit I am a little bitter.
This was a few years ago and we've moved on, but here is the readers digest version: A breeder I know had a virus wipe out his entire rat colony. I had just had a bunch of rat babies at the time and offered to hold back 50 until they were adults for him so he could have new breeders in a couple weeks time. I know this guy personally, so I gave him a great deal on them ($1 each for adults) and I didn't take any deposit (my mistake, one that I won't make again). We agreed on a specific date for him to pick them up. He also had me pick him up 100 adult ASF from another breeder an hour away since I lived closer. I said sure and I would just charge him what they cost me since we were "friends". I paid for them with my own money, which came to $250 and change. The date for him to pick up and pay for everything comes. He can't make it. Says he can in two weeks. I offer to drive the 1 1/2 hour drive to his house and drop them off at his convenience if it would make it easier. He says no thanks, he doesn't want me to have to waste any gas because I've been helpful enough. So I agree to hold them for two weeks. Two weeks later, he backs out again, says he can pick them up in two more weeks. Those two weeks pass, he backs out again. The next day I see him post an ad for rats for sale since he has a surplus. I call him out on it on the forum where he posted the ad. Turns out he had already purchased from another breeder a while back and just left me holding the bag. So now I have not only raised all 50 of these rats from birth for him, but I also am left holding and caring for the 100 ASF that I paid for with my own money that I have had to feed for him for a month. This kinda screws me over because now I have 150 mouths to continue to feed/care for until I can sell them. It isn't cheap caring for that many rats/asf when you factor in food, bedding and time and I believe I was going above and beyond the call of duty in this instance just to help out a fellow herper who was down on his luck.
I made the mistake of starting a BOI type thread on the other forum about this, I included full emails and screen shots of our communications. I am instantly attacked by his little minions from every possible angle. How could I possibly say anything bad about this guy? He is a God in the community. It must MY fault that he left me holding the bag and I am just trying to ruin his reputation. Who am I to do such a thing? I'm just a random rat breeder that no one knows and everyone who is anyone has heard of him. It gets really hard to defend ones self when it is 20 against 1 and all logic and reason is dismissed simply because the buyer has more buddies than me. So I simply bowed down, sucked up my losses and accepted the fact that my reputation is tainted for having the huevos to stand up for myself and not just sweep it under the rug.
So yes, I have a lot of sympathy for the little guy who gets screwed for posting a BOI and getting ganged up on. It happens, but popularity is everything. Facts make little difference.
I will admit that not all BOI's are bad. In fact, most are probably quite accurate, but I would take everything with a grain of salt.

This is true. :gj: I've seen a lot of BOI's end up like that. That kind of childish behavior really doesn't help one's case. You can think that "X" is a real "!@#$" all you want, I know I think a lot of folks are "!@#$", but throwing a fit isn't going to fix your problem. Those BOI's I would always just "X" out of and move on. Same goes with the BOI's that do the whole ganging up deal.

Am I missing something?
I can only find three threads in which you posted in the Fauna BOI...........
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...d.php?t=237450
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...d.php?t=205482
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...d.php?t=210371
None of which have anything to do with rats.................
Or was this not on the Fauna BOI - but another forum? If so, then we are talking apples to oranges here.

Either way, you won't find this BOI on any forums anymore because the person this BOI was about is one of the admins on the website it was posted on and guess what? He deleted it. He censors anyone who opposes him. Kind of like the whole ballbids crap where the owner deletes any and all posts that speak out against them and in return posts all those who praise him on the front page. The damage is done, though. People now know me locally and I'm branded as the guy who tried to tarnish the buyers "good" name. It has really hurt our business and has made it really hard for us to further ourselves in the hobby.

I know of no other BOIs. Where is this other forum or forums with a "BOI"?.

Really, man? Last I checked, BP.net even has a "BOI" section. A lot of internet forums such as this have a "BOI". It may not be called a "BOI", but the purpose is the same. Information/feedback/inquiries on folks who buy/sell/trade/etc. The forum I am referring to was a local group on FB that no longer exists and has not existed for a good year and a half. It may not have been "mainstream" like Fauna, but it hurt us none the less since it was dedicated to local businesses and we only deal locally. Think of it like starting a rumor about someone in high school. Sure a school across the country may not know about it, but it still ruins that persons reputation at that school.
Example:
Does this forum not serve the exact same function and purpose as the BOI on Fauna? To inform people on the business practices of people/businesses that users are considering purchasing from...

AK- i think the point skip is trying to make is that Fauna's BOI is usually very fair and something like this wouldnt have happened there. Since it was on a FB group i mean you kinda brought that on yourself dude, lol. FB is a free for all with many less rules than Fauna or BP.net. I cant see our mods here let a pecking party like what youre describing, happen without stepping in to ref.

That's an Inquiries/Feedback Forum and I think even the mods here would hesitate to call it the BOI or a BOI or whatever.
The BOI is the BOI. Period. If other sites have good guy/bad guy forums, well, so what. When you say the BOI, the inference is Fauna. That's why people are discussing "Faunadrama" and "the BallBids thread". Those are specific references to Fauna.
The BOI is part of Fauna. Looking back at every post in THIS thread, it looks like with the exception of your posts and maybe one other, everyone is talking about Fauna.
Now every forum has their little rat packers, and some forums are more cliquish than others. In the case of Fauna, there have been more rotten apples rooted out there than just about any other site combined. The BOI is set up in such a way that peer pressure is used to coerce bad guys to do the right thing and if they don't then their business takes a beating.
To this day I still check the real BOI before doing business with someone I don't know. I would even bet that those who whine and bellyache about the BOI have done the same.
-
Ya know ak, I can see why people didn't side with you.
