    New to racks
I have 2 snakes that started getting a slight whistle every now and again and I just found my humidity is over 80%, could this cause it??? Also, would I just need to put more holes in the tubs to lower the humidity or what????

Smaller water area, more holes in tub (done slowly so you don't over do it), moving the water further from heat source (if possible) are all ways to lower and better mantain your humidity. As for the whistle, need more info on your temperatures, such as Ambient temps, hot spot temps, and cool side temps. . . Whistles can be the start of an RI, be very watchful for any kind of dried up or wet discharge on the snakes snout.

More holes = less humidity. 80% humidity with good airflow (ventilation) is fine, in fact the parts of Africa that BP's come from average 75% humidity. What causes problems is stagnant air along with high humidity.

How are your cool side temperatures?

79-81 and warm side is 89-91 so that SHOULD be fine

Yes the temps are fine. I use a one air change per hour rate for air flow. The easy check is using dry paper substrate check rh remove the water bowl wait one hour and check the rh again it should be at or very near the rooms rh level. If not make more holes. The rh on the tub will depend on the room. A screen enclosure will be 80% if the room is 80%. :)

Yeah it's about 58 in the room itself....but the tubs are getting too high, so I'm thinking of doing what u said, gonna take out the water dished and see what happens

Leave it out for an hour and see where you are. Don't forget to put it back in thou...

It will be lower if it is on the cool side. And smaller diameter.

So lucky, I wish my problem was reducing humidity. Such case is the opposite for me.

Lol yeah it's crazy I always had the issue of not having enough until I got this rack lol

So I removed the water bowls and humidity is at 100%.... I think it's time to add some more holes!!

I would guess that you need more ventilation, as Aaron pointed out high humidity and low air flow is a know documented contributor of respiratory issues (sick building syndrome...) Too much air flow just leads to some shedding issues. VPI (the Barkers) comment is simple if you have an error, err on too much ventilation over too little. It is much healthier to have too much than too little.

True, imma do this as soon as I wake up tomorrow, would u suggest holes all the way down on the sides or just in the front and back?? Currently they are only on the front and backs.

I'd add some to the side, but be sure to not add too many holes.

Add a few, then leave the tub for a bit and check the humidity. Add more till you get it right.

I think the ends are ok but not just around the lip some about 1.5 inches from the bottom it makes a big difference to air flow patterns.

Gonna put some holes in there in a few, waiting sir the soldering iron to heat up now!!!!

It's kind of hard to see but I put holes closer to the bottom along the side, I put 4 holes then some space and then 4 holes and then some space the 4 holes on both sides, if its too much I will melt some closed. Lets just keep our fingers crossed this fixes the issue!!!

So after putting these holes in the humidity dropped, but it's still above 80%. I'm thinking maybe more holes should be added....anyone else have some more input? Could it be the substrate I use??? I use the reptibark red bark.

It appears your substrate also is contributing to your humidity. Have you considered newspaper or paper towel?

    Try paper towels or aspen

newspaper is safer than paper towels. (paper towel ingestion can and has been fatal) What is the RH in the room?

How ever slight the risk it still exists. Google will show you images of two separate animals and I have seem one in the flesh (the operation to remove it was partially successful) my vet has a few more examples as well. There is no advantage of paper towels over the plethora of other paper substrates and just one rare but monumental down side. Why take a risk with clear advantage?
