What is the youngest and lightest weight that your male for your breeding?
I do have a male, im really not sure of his age. Hes weight is 400+gms. Do you think i can use him for breeding this season?

No need to post multiple threads of the same topic.

When do you plan to start pairing? Is he producing sperm plugs?

If you're familiar with how to pop a snake to see its sex, do that to the male. If white crusty stuff comes out of the vent in the process, he's ready.

@mike- sorry.. I plan on breeding him this coming season.

@mrland and mike- yep i popped him a week a go and i noticed that there is a sperm plug.
So, i can use him already this season?

Yes but if he's only 400g I think people would tell you to keep him away from exceptionally heavy females. I've seen pics of locks that looked like a 400g with a 2000g, though.

If he is producing, he will either go or wont go. But I would try.

Any male producing sperm plug can breed however it does not mean that it will be interested. Breeding small males can also be very risky as breeding can take it's toll and male can be bred to death (experience and knowing when to stop breeding that male will be very important)

For years I have tried breeding smaller males but they never have shown any interest therefore I know longer even try, seems like the best result are from males 650 grams and over.

How about locks with 440 gram males to 3000 gram females, is that what you mean by keeping him away from large females? :rofl:

IMO if a person isn't experienced in pairing larger males then I suggest staying away from pairing smaller males to large females.
By smaller I mean smaller than 600 grams or so.

Is it fatal to my young male(400gms) if i bred him with my 2 females. 1 is 2000+gms the other is 1.4kg.
So what are your suggestions? Will i breed him this season or wait next season?

It isn't guaranteed fatal, but putting him in with them at that age/size doesn't necessarily mean anything good will happen, either. Why don't you just keep feeding him and see if you can get him up around 700g by January, and then try breeding him then? If he's eating well, 100g a month is possible. There's no law that you have to start in October.

Thanks for the advise. I'll try to feed him more. I hope i can breed him sooner.

The smallest male I have bred was around 550grams. You could definitely try since you are seeing sperm plugs. Just watch him to make sure you do not wear him out to much. I would monitor his body weight closely if you do breed him. Good luck!
