    Hi there!
Hi, I'm Darrien. Im 15 years old and hoping to get a snake. My mom is pretty terrified of snakes but if i do convince her I am hoping to get a cool looking ball python (of course something decently affordable unlike a piebald for example.) I have been doing lots of research on bps for the past few days, but I have yet to get one. I am hoping to find a breeder in San Diego. You guys might see me making thread after thread in different sections of the forum so yea haha. I am hoping to learn lots of species, laws, tips, tricks, and all the fun stuff. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. And kudos on getting all your info before joining the hobby/addiction(just wait). Read a lot and ask lots of questions. When it comes to this place, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask so don't be afraid to start a new thread. This vid might help your efforts too.

Welcome! Good luck convincing your mom. Maybe have her read some threads on here too so she can learn they're great pets.

Thanks a lot guys! Im happy to be here. Yea I am hoping to convince her to let me get one. She is not really scared that much. She just like hates the sight of them cause they like slither and she gets goosebumps and stuff haha.

    Welcome!

My mom wasnt fond of them when i got my first one a few years ago but now she tolerates them alot better.

Dont settle for a snake just bc its cheap, save up and find a good looking example of the morph. :gj:

Welcome! Yes, read and ask a lot! There are tons of helpful folks here. I used to be scared of snakes too. Tell her that bps don't "slither" fast like a wild garter or something. For the most part they are very docile. Once she holds one, she may fall in love.

Also, I agree with Mike, save up and buy a really nice morph.

Yea I want to get something simple at first. Or at least something I can take care of so if something were to happen to my first snake it would not be something expensive like a pastel or piebald and all those other crazy morphs. Im hoping to get a spider ball python as my first, because I have heard that they are like the next lowest price next to a normal ball python.

You should be able to get a pastel fairly cheap too.

What would you say is the cheapest type of bp? And if you can a price range between them.

    Welcome to the site!

Do your research and show your mom the main things you find. Show her you have been doing the background work to make sure you know how to care for the snake. As for making her like them, that may never happen. My mom was always terrified of snakes, but she comes over to take care of my snakes if I'm gone. She has gotten much better about them and isn't nearly as afraid as she used to be!

It will be ok! When I first asked my
Mom about getting a ball python she said "hell no! About 12 snakes and 4 months later she got used to the idea and started handling them almost daily :)! Including a 8 1/2 foot Boa!

    Re: Hi there!
I would agree that a pastel BP is probably the cheapest of the basic morphs. That being said, you may want to spend a bit more a get the spider or go even a little higher and pick up a male bumblebee. Go to some local shows and talk to breeders and tell them you situation and see if they might give you a little price break.
