This irritates the crap out of me!

Ok a little back story:

I have been into guns most of my life. I have been shooting them since I was 3 or 4 years old and now I am 27. So it made sence to me to join the military and become a small arms repair mechanic. Over the last couple of years I have been looking for a 1911 .45 that suits my needs. I finally got one about 7 months ago. Well the thing about 1911s is they are highly customizable. Well the other day when I was on my 1911 forum, I scored a set of free custom grips for it. To say the least I was stoked. Well my wife's birthday came and her mom sent her some money in the mail so she could get herself something nice. The letter never turned up. Being the guy that I am I thought it may have just been lost in the mail. Well today it has been 9 days since my custom grips have been sent as first class mail. I called the post office and they confirmed my fear...mail thief.

What the ham sandwich could go through someone's mind that they would want to steal (an army veterans and his wife's) mail? Well I one upped this dude and my mailbox is under surveillance and I will catch them in video so they can go to jail and have a great time with a large but fair man named Bubba. I hope they realize this is a FEDERAL crime and it is no joke when I go ahead and press charges on them.

Wow that sucks. Some people are really scummy. Id suggest what id do to them if i caught them but id get another infraction lol.

Oh man, that's annoying. That kinda stuff makes me sick. What makes people think it's okay to take things that don't belong to them? I hope you find this person, and I hope they get what they deserve.

What 1911 did you decide on getting? I had my eye on the Kimber Super Match II, but couldn't justify the cost. Ended up with the Kimber Tactical HD II, solid firearm.

Yeah I called the cops and they will be coming by. I also think I know who it is. And that's the hard part because it is a bunch of kids. I have caught them in my mailbox before and now they are gonna have a nice interview with Colorado's finest. I have talked to the parents and the kids and it still happens. They are lucky I didn't catch them red handed. I'd probably be in jail if I did. But like I said regardless of age I will press charges and I will go to court over it.

I went with the Metro Arms American Classic II in matte blue. It is a great little shooter and didn't break the bank at $500 with all the transfer fees.

Not to sound like a angry gun nut but if this had happened to me I would be inclinded to show him the business end of my 1911 A1 .45. But as a retired Marine I will applaud you for doing the correct thing and get him on tape and hopefully they will lock him up with his pal Bubba for a while :mad:

Trust me it took every fiber of my being not to go knocking on doors till I found the little punk. But that high and mighty article 15 isn't what I need when I am 9 months out. Then I will be a civilian again and I can camp out the mailbox with my rifle. Go ahead punk make my day.

I really hope you catch the kids or at least have the cops talk to them and explain the severity of the crime.

There won't be explaining, they stole money AND hand made custom grips for a gun they don't even own. If the cops don't do anything about the kids, I will press charges on the parents because I have told them I would do it an they haven't fixed the problem. So now it's all up to the law. I hope that this fixes the problem.

Send yourself a nice thick envelope of folded paper, with your camera running to catch whoever gets into your mailbox. Sometimes it's not getting taken out of the mailbox, but intercepted by the mail carrier.

Good job on the restraint, for several reasons, especially with anything "GUN!" involved. The media being what it is, you'd be crucified, regardless of how justified your actions might be. That's some total bull on their part for doing that and yes, it very much is a Federal offense. If the locals won't take it or kick it to the Postal Inspector, do so yourself. Most of those guys (Postal Inspectors) are squared-away individuals who don't really have a lot to occupy their time, so they tend to jump at the chance to get some "field" time, lol! Not saying that they don't work hard, as all of the one's I've dealt with are great people, just that they don't get a lot of opportunity to work cases and make things happen. Hope things work out for you and nice choice on the 1911. Have a few of those myself and while I don't carry them, they are fun to shoot and nostalgic to have in the safe; classics and all.

Thanks for the comment on the 1911. As for the kids they are going to have their day. And if it was a mail carrier...oh man that guys life is over. Commuting a federal offense as a government employee is bad news. Goodbye freedom hello federal pen.

thats good bait for a thief. also a box type package that sticks out of the mail box would catch a thiefs interest to know whats in it then bam! curiosity killed the cat;)

Yea this is a good idea! That way they could see it without having to open the mailbox or get close.

I was just thinking of this: too bad you couldnt buy one of those ink bomb things they put in money bags at banks. You could rig it into a box and whoever steals it and opens the box would be in for a BIG surprise lol!!!

First off op I'm sorry to hear this. It's ridiculous that you even have to deal with this.

Now to take off with Mike's idea. While you can't get those bank ink packs, you can take one of the paintball grenades and add some permanent ink to it then rig it to go off when the package is opened. It'd be kinda tricky but I'm sure it could be pulled off.

There was mail being stolen in a certain area around here....guess who?

Lmao noooo! Then he'll get charged with assault or something haha. Just catch them in the act or on video and call the fuzz. Your tax money pays their salary so make them earn it lol!

Just got off the phone with the cops. They aren't doing anything about it unless I catch them in the act so I'm gonna try some stuff. In the meantime I am getting a po box so it's gonna be great watching these fools get busted.

I'm not sure what type of camera system you were thinking about using but a game camera might be just what you need.
