Not so sure if my rats.are breeding or just playing. I had rabbits before and remember when they bred it didn't take long. Just wondering.

no it shouldnt take long. how old are they? how long have you had them? what is your ratio?

I have two 1.2 groups I bought them as small feeders about three weeks ago. The males are bigger than the females and they all play and seem to get along well. I feel like they should be breeding soon.

the females should be around 250 grams. they might be to small. smalls are usually around 4 to 6 weeks, to get to breeding size could take 10 to 12 weeks, do you have a scale?

Just weighed them all just under 200g.

they should be making babies, lol. give it about another month. if you can, separate the males and females for a few days then put them back together. or if you have them in groups swap the males. my girls are usually around 300 when they wean off their babies but they are older too. my male is about 410.

Is it ok to keep the males with the.females all the time?

yea, some people just put them in for a week or two then take them out. i leave my males and females together until she is visibly pregnant. usually when they start showing they will have babies within 3 or 4 days. if they have small litters they may not show at all.

Check the females genitals after you have seen the male mount her several times. if there is a mucus plug there is a good chance the breeding was successful.

i have read that and heard alot of people say that too. i personally have never been able to see it in mice or rats. i think something is wrong with the link btw.

You will know when they're not playing.
Mating is very quick. The male mounts the female only for a few seconds then stops. He licks his shaft to clean and lube it up, then mounts the female again for another few seconds, then gets off. This process is repeated through the night the female is in heat. The females go into heat every 4-5 days.
It looks nothing like playing. A female in heat will hop around enticing the male as well. When she is receptive, she will wiggle her ears and arch her back to allow the male to mount her.

Overall, you probably wouldn't witness them breeding anyway. Peek breeding time is around twilight and throughout the night.

Well evidently they were breeding cause three of the females are about to POP and their nipples are very pronounced. Should I move them to a seperate tub all together or seperate tubs or leave them with the males? Right now they are 1.2 in each tub.

i have all my females together. the male together should be fine as long as they dont fight. just keep an eye on them at first.
