Flying with reptiles.

My sister wants to buy a kingsnake here in Colorado and then take it with her on the plane to Texas. Is this legal and if so what are the proper ways to do it?

I'm fairly certain that it isn't legal, your best option is to have the reptile shipped using ship your reptiles.

I think it would be easier to ship it through SYR or some other service. You can ship Delta Dash, but it can be pricy.

I'm talking about just carrying it on her lap on the flight back. If legal that would be way cheaper and probably safer for the animal.

Ship the animal. I'm pretty sure they don't allow reptiles on passenger planes. If they do, it will probably cost more than just shipping it.

Reptiles are not permitted as carry-on animals.

Cannot be done the animal MUST be shipped through Fedex priority overnight or via Delta Dash.

They only allow it if Samual L. Jackson is on the flight. Just in case.

Reptiles used to be allowed as checked luggage on various airlines, with certain regulations specifying departure and arrival temperatures, and proper containers. I flew a corn snake out of Anchorage when we moved in the summer.

No airline I know of allows reptiles or amphibians as checked luggage anymore, most that did have since removed those policies and just have a blanket 'not allowed', pretty much since 9/11/2001.

I've never known an airline to allow reptiles in the main cabin. There was a girl a year or two ago that had her turtle/tortoise taken away by the TSA that caused an uproar.. apparently TSA threw the animal in the trash or something else terrible like that.

In short, NO you cannot transport a reptile on a commercial airline to the best of my knowledge. If you try, you will likely end up with the choice of your animal dying or not boarding.

9/11 really changed things around the world.

I remember old Orlando (now Daytona) Expos where folks would literally put baby snakes in bags and put them in their jacket pockets and board the plane.

That doesn't work anymore...

why not just call the airline she is flying with and ask. also explain how it will be packaged

I would think the issue would be getting through TSA. I sent them an email, just as a gee whiz but I doubt they'd approve it.

On another issue, she is willing to have it shipped, but the guy she is buying it from is telling her she can ship it 2nd day. I'm not familiar with kingsnakes is this an OK practice? Also does anyone know any breeders in the DFW area who might have kingsnakes there?
