The herpstat has more features, is safer, & is more accurate. Overall it is a better product

I wouldn't say one is safer than the other. I have the ve300x2 and it runs just fine, but I like my herpstat 4 way more!

But they are, herpstats have software/fuses that prevent them from failing in the on position, VE-thermostats do not.

Both have temperature alarms as well. Its not like the VE has zero safety features, the herpstat just has more. It is still my preference.

They both work well. I have them both. Each has advantages and disadvantages. I prefer the herpstats though.

I agree with SM the herpstats have over and under temp protection, that the VE does not the mechanical relay is far more likely to fail off than on. Soft heat from cold. As far as I can see the VE has no safety features at all, it is just a plain thermostat. The biggest selling point is Rich.

Of the 4 reptile proportional units the VE is the skinniest on features. The herpkeeper has the one of the best communication features and alarm systems. The ecozone also has amazing alarm and monitoring features as well as the easiest to set. The herpstat has the most advanced safety systems and the ve and helix the most basic.

    Thank You Guys for Input..

I have older version of Herpstat 1 and I'm planing to use it for my DIY Incubator... and with different sizes of heat tape in by sweater box and my future hatchling rack i need something what can control them independently.

With same Price Looks like I will go with Herpstat 2

    Thanks Again :]

The VE300x2 has a temp alarm, but that is about it.

I guess an alarm can be called a safety feature so it has one that all the competition have but the Helix. It is unfortunate that VE choose to copy a 30 year old design and ignore all the innovations that follow after the Helix.

Great info here guys. I was also on the fence on which to get. I guess for running two different racks (adult and juvie), the herpstat 2 is the best way to go.
