    Your Breeder Rooms!
We have a thread for snake rooms but none for feeders?! Let's change that :)

My mice are out in the shed:

I have one colony of ASFs in my house, along with two mice cages. One holds my pet boy ash, and his girls and the other holds the feeders for my snakes din din tomorrow

    Nope, not at all!
We enjoy keeping and breeding our rats and ASF's almost as much as our snakes!
With the bottles we get to spend more time hanging out with the rats, because it is a daily thing to check and fill water bottles plus go through the tubs and check on everyone.
And it really only takes us about 10 minutes to go through and fill all 32 bottles.

Plus we have had a couple bad experiences with auto water before!

And I thought 15 water bottles was a lot!

I totally get it though. I check on my mice outside daily, and spend quite a bit of time with them. Now that they're producing, it's fun :)

Yeah we had to deal with one flood that drowned about 40 pinkies and fuzzies in a couple tubs.
And we also almost killed our entire breeding rack when I forgot to open the valve after refilling the bucket and didn't realize it for about 3 days! Stupid mistake on my part, but it can happen.

That's an awesome setup! I see your fans on the floor and the ceiling but with that many animals in that space, how do you keep the odor manageable? Do you have an air exchanger that vents to the exterior or a carbon filter in the room or something else altogether? Nice setup; looks clean and professionally kept.

I will be building another 12+ tub rack in the next month. I am up to 55 BPs now and it seems like I never have enough rats!!!

Are those 2x2s that you have used as the frame? That is a VERY slick rack, I built my 12 tub rack a while back and am going to be building another one soon and I might steal, I mean borrow an idea or two from you :)

Do you like the wire cages better? I would imagine they would air out better but be more of a pain to clean?

Yes the frame work for the tubs is 2x2.
I like your 12 tub rack. It looks like it could stand up to a tornado!
Instead of building a whole new rack why not engineer someway to just expand it up?

all that would be needed is the extra frame work for the tubs, and double the length of the legs. Be cheaper then building a hole new 1.

Thanks, I might have went a litle overkill using 2x4s everywhere, but I dont even move it so being heavy is ok :). I might add one or two more rows, but dont want to go much higher. I am 6' tall and getting in the top tub on my 6 tub rack is all I can reach, I dont want to use a ladder to change bedding and move rats and such.

There are two Gable Fans in the roof of the building for air exchange...They have duct work running from them into the ceiling of the rat house with 20x20 registers...There is also three widows on the side and back of the building.

Yeah they are good...Very easy to clean the actual trays...The best thing is you don't have to handle any of the rodents when cleaning...Saves a lot of time. The racks themselves need a wire brush to them every once in a while.

They are great in the summer...A fan cuts right through them and keeps everyone really cool!
