    After Feeding Handle Time
How long should we wait after a feeding till you think its OK to handle our BP? Is a day long enough, say anything over 12 hours or what?

I normally wait a day/24 hours at the minimum.

I wait 48 hours...after seeing those MRI's of a python after it eats (MRI taken every few hours) It just reaffirmed my 48 hour rule...

I have always seen it recommended to wait 2-3 days.

I like to wait 10-15 minutes to make sure they get the meal down all the way

2 days minimum. I wait until I see the snake out and active at dusk usually. Then I know for sure they're good :gj:

We wait 24 hours minimum and then limited handling and only if they are active already. Hope that helps

like to handle them for an extended period? or just to move them? If I really need to move my snakes after feeding, for whatever comes up, i wait about an hour. if you mean tto handle for extended periods of time for your enjoyment I typically wait about 2-3 days.

Thanks I should have been more clear on that part.. I meant to handle for extended periods. We have only had our 1st snake for 13 days now and it ate for the first time yesterday.. Others have told us to let the snake get use to being in its new environment and have it eat before we start handling it.. We want to get her use to being handled, but don't want to rush her. Especially after her 1st meal for us.. Yes, we are new snake owners! Ha

Thanks Everyone for all the other replies too

Definitely don't rush things. :) I would say give your snake at least 36 hours (though 48 would be better, imho) to digest before you handle. BPs can be such fickle things when it comes to food and you certainly don't want it to regurge. Regurges are bad. ;) I know it is soooooo hard not to want to handle them because they are so cute! But for their sake, take it slow and don't heap too much on them. You want your new friend to continue to eat and be healthy, so patience is very important.

I try not to handle them much for about 24 hrs. But my son will pull his out before that sometimes but he doesn't do much with it he wears it on his neck all the time. My snakes seem to like being handeld and have never refused a rat will eat two med rats if offered.

Tomorrow I'm going to pull her out and weigh her. I do know this.. I'm just not sure her 7 gram Fuzzy was enough.. I think we'll go with the 15% of body weight method on her meal size.

    Thanks!

I don't handle "just fed" snakes any more than I have to, especially if it has just eaten a large meal.
Not because of the possibility of a regurge, because of respect for the snake, generally all they want to do is sit on the hot spot and begin digestion.

Regurging because you handle them is about the most over blow rumor out there, it's just not going to happen unless the snake is extremely stressed out, and in that case you're probably not handling it much anyways.

I wait 2-3 days or until I see him starting to come out and about at night again. Usually after I feed him he won't leave his warm side hide until he's completely finished digesting which is usually after 48 hours. :)
