    Scale Rot?!?!?!?!
Pick up this lovely girl from CL today. No Mites!! But i noticed her belly scales are pretty dry and red :/ Also, the scales running along her spine are whitish and peeling. :( IS THIS SCALE ROT?? If so, could I purchase a betadine solution at walmart and what would be the correct process of treating her? Would I find betadine there?

Sorry, those are the best pics I could get for now. I did not want to disturb her or put her in anymore pain. We have her in isolation from our other snakes as of right now. I wanted to know if a product called desitin would be safe to put on her back for now till I can run to walmart tomorrow. It's used for babies. (plus my favorite thing to use on healing tattoos :) )

I have no experience with scale rot but I thought my BP had it. I freaked out for a day but then noticed he was just going into shed and felt like a totally relieved idiot. He hadn't been eating so I immediately thought the worst.

Looks like a shed coming up. Wait and see.

If you think its something bad like scale rot keep her on papertowels and keep jer enclosure minimal till you find out if its a shed or not.

The white spots look like scars - maybe from rodent bites if it eats live. The pink just looks like its gonna shed. Dont use the diaper rash stuff, as far as I know the petrolium base will do wonders for turning the scales to slosh. I know it happens with vaseline and such - I wouldn't use that either. I would just let it chill for a bit, see if it sheds and let it go from there. I don't see scale rot though.

The white scars doesn't look like old rodent bites. It definitely looks like the snake scraped its back crawling under something. Like trying to escap an enclosure or something. I rescued a super pastel ball who had an identical scar because he snuck out of his tank and the screen top caught his back.

You can find betadine at any drug store. Its practically diluted iodine. When using betadine, you can dilute it until it's tea colored and give that girl a nice soak. That should help sanitize all her wounds. You can also just swab it on if you don't want to bathe her.

I don't see rot or wounds. Maybe a shed coming up.
Looks like she lost some scales on here back crawling under something.
She may have been neglected a little, sitting in her own pee/poo, etc. Hope not.
I'd just keep her enclosure super clean and add a little humidity if she looks like she will shed.

So she just needed to shed? If the scrape along her back is just that; a scrape, it will fade over time with each shed. She looks great now!

She had scale rot along her stomach and it was really rough, worse than sandpaper. She has shed twice and I have been soaking her in Betadine once per day. Shes now smooth as silk :P ha
