Welcome to the Ball python world! Is this your first snake? There is a TON of info going around this site that you will probably find useful. Good luck with the little one, and can't wait to see pics! :)

Welcome to the friendliest snake site on the web! There are answers from how to heat a snake to how to cool a snake to how to humanely kill mice and even a commentary on the rampant car crime in America haha. Have fun!

Hi :) I'm pretty new here as well. Don't have a BP yet, but hopefully that's going to change soon. My mother is warming up slowly... Just giving her patience, patience and more patience...But anywho, I just have a probably silly question, but about the avatars: Does one have to have a have a photo gallery for the picture to be on, or can a link to My Documents folder work? I feel kind of childish asking this, but thanks alot for ya'll's time.

As long as the graphics are somewhere on the internet where you can plug the adress in you are good to go. Won't work from local directories on your PC.

(edit: hehe and I hope you are an owner of one of those wicked looking leaf-tail geckos :P)

if you go to the general forum there is a sticky on Avatars it helped me a lot! It's a bit tricky the easiest way I've found was using a photo gallery on this very site! check out the sticky though that should help.
    oh and Welcome you too!!

Ahh, I see. And no, sorry, no geckos. All we have here are 2 dogs and 2 HUGE Ryukin goldfish.

There are SOME places on the Internet where you can host images, but they won't let you link to them remotely from other sites. Geocities/Yahoo, for instance. You can put links to the images, but you can't post the image itself, except within their own programs. So those would not work for an avatar. Like Jonah said...the simplest way to go about it is to set up an album here.

I believe photobucket.com allows image hosting with remote linking capabilities.

Welcome to the group. I got my first BP back around September of last year, and now I'm up to three of them. They can be very addicting. :)

One piece of very difficult to keep advice: Now that you've brought home your new friend, give him or her a week or two to settle in before handling them any more than necessary. Ball Pythons, especially, are difficult to keep that advice with, as they're such mellow and personable snakes, but even they will settle in better and with less stress if you don't disturb them any more than you have to until they get used to their new home.

I just brought home my third one yesterday, and even with two others I can socialize with, it's still hard to leave her in her new home instead of bringing her out to get better acquainted. In the long run, though, the patience pays off with a healthier, happier snake.
